Fincantieri Signs Deal with TUI Cruises for Two New LNG-Powered InTUItion Class Ships

Fincantieri Signs Deal with TUI Cruises for Two New LNG-Powered InTUItion Class Ships

(IN BRIEF) Fincantieri has finalized a contract with TUI Cruises, a joint venture of TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, for two new InTUItion class cruise ships to be delivered in 2031 and 2032. The order replaces a previous agreement with TUI AG for Marella Cruises vessels and will instead expand TUI Cruises’ fleet with ships larger than the Marella design. Each ship will be around 160,000 gross tons, powered by dual-fuel LNG and MGO systems, and built to the latest environmental standards. Although the contract value is higher than the earlier Marella deal, it remains within previously announced limits. Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero emphasized that the order strengthens ties with TUI and Royal Caribbean while reinforcing Fincantieri’s role in delivering innovative and sustainable shipbuilding solutions.

(PRESS RELEASE) TRIESTE, 29-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Fincantieri S.p.A., one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups, announces that it has reached a new milestone in its collaboration with TUI Cruises, the joint venture of TUI AG and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, by signing a definitive contract for the construction of two large cruise vessels. The deal replaces the preliminary agreement made in March 2025 with TUI AG for Marella Cruises ships, redirecting the order toward expanding TUI Cruises’ fleet instead.

Scheduled for delivery in 2031 and 2032, the vessels will be built as part of the InTUItion class and will join “Mein Schiff Relax” and “Mein Schiff Flow” as sister ships. Each will feature dual-fuel propulsion, using both LNG and MGO, and will be designed according to the latest international sustainability standards. With an approximate gross tonnage of 160,000, the ships will exceed the size of those originally planned for Marella, highlighting TUI Cruises’ ambition for growth and environmental progress.

While the value of the contract surpasses the one previously foreseen for the Marella project, it remains within the financial limits publicly communicated on March 31, 2025. The agreement is subject to standard financing arrangements and customary contractual conditions.

Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, described the order as an important step forward, stating that the contract “strengthens the collaboration with TUI Cruises, while also deepening the bonds with both TUI and Royal Caribbean. It underlines the mutual trust built over years of cooperation and the success achieved with the earlier InTUItion class ships. Fincantieri continues to prove its ability to combine Italian shipbuilding tradition with sustainable innovation to serve the leading names in the cruise industry.”
