EQT Foundation Supports Hong Kong Healthtech Innovator Syngular in Revolutionizing Surgical Precision with AI and XR

(IN BRIEF) EQT Foundation has invested €100,000 in Syngular Technology, a Hong Kong-based startup developing an AI- and AR-powered surgical guidance platform. The company’s system integrates extended reality and artificial intelligence to deliver real-time, spatially aware surgical support that enhances precision and reduces operating time. Having been used in more than 80 surgeries, including pilots with the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, Syngular aims to expand its reach and address the growing need for advanced surgical navigation tools. The investment, part of EQT’s Impact Challenge initiative, will support Syngular’s mission to transform operating rooms through intelligent, immersive technology that improves both surgical efficiency and patient outcomes.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 20-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — EQT Foundation has announced its investment in Syngular Technology, a Hong Kong-based healthtech startup pioneering an AI- and AR-powered surgical guidance platform designed to enhance precision and efficiency in operating rooms. The investment, made through a €100,000 SAFE (Simple Agreement for Future Equity), follows Syngular’s win in the EQT Impact Challenge in Hong Kong, recognizing its potential to transform surgical care through immersive technology and intelligent automation.

Syngular’s innovative platform integrates augmented reality overlays with AI-based anatomical segmentation and digital twin generation, enabling surgeons to visualize and navigate complex anatomy in real time. By merging extended reality (XR), gaming technology, and machine learning, the system provides spatial guidance directly during surgery—reducing preparation time, enhancing surgical accuracy, and lowering the risk of complications. This capability is especially significant for hospitals facing resource constraints, where advanced surgical tools are often unavailable or limited.

One of the core challenges in modern surgery is the lack of real-time navigational assistance. Surgeons frequently rely on 2D images and memory when performing high-risk procedures, resulting in longer operation times and higher costs. Syngular’s technology directly addresses this gap by offering fully immersive, spatially aware guidance that has already been applied in over 80 clinical cases, including collaborations with the Hong Kong Hospital Authority.

“Our mission is to revolutionize how medical professionals learn and operate through the convergence of AI and XR,” said Louis Sze, CEO and Co-Founder of Syngular Technology. “This partnership with EQT Foundation will help us scale our platform to meet the growing clinical demand and extend our reach across Hong Kong and beyond.”

Cilia Holmes Indahl, CEO of EQT Foundation, added, “Syngular Technology is a powerful example of how frontier technology can be applied to solve pressing healthcare challenges. Their platform makes surgical innovation both practical and impactful, bringing tangible benefits to patient outcomes and hospital efficiency.”

With a founding team experienced in medical imaging, 3D modeling, and interactive game design—drawing talent from Medtronic, Nvidia, EA, Riot Games, and Oracle—Syngular is strategically expanding through partnerships with medical education institutions and B2B channels. The company’s next phase focuses on strengthening its footprint within Hong Kong’s healthcare system while preparing for regional expansion across Asia.
