Energiekontor reaches financial close on Haberloh and Heidkrug wind parks in Lower Saxony with construction to begin soon

(IN BRIEF) Energiekontor AG has secured financial close for its Haberloh and Heidkrug wind parks in Lower Saxony, clearing the way for construction to begin. Together, the projects will deliver around 94 megawatts of capacity through 13 Vestas turbines and are scheduled to be operational in 2027. Once online, the wind parks are expected to produce about 217 gigawatt hours annually, powering more than 66,000 households and saving over 160,000 tonnes of CO₂ each year. Beyond electricity production, the developments will provide economic benefits to the region through leases, municipal taxes, and citizen participation, while also implementing broad ecological compensation measures. According to CEO Peter Szabo, Energiekontor is currently advancing 17 projects totalling more than 540 megawatts, reflecting a historic peak in construction activity and reinforcing its role as one of Germany’s leading renewable energy pioneers.

(PRESS RELEASE) BREMEN, 4-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Energiekontor AG, the Bremen-based renewable energy developer and operator listed in the General Standard, has successfully secured financial close for its Haberloh and Heidkrug wind park projects in the district of Verden, Lower Saxony. With this milestone achieved, both projects are now fully prepared to enter the construction phase.

The two wind parks, which together will provide around 94 megawatts of capacity, received their building permits in August 2024 and subsequently succeeded in the Federal Network Agency’s EEG tender in May 2025. Construction is expected to begin shortly, with commissioning planned for 2027.

The neighbouring projects are strategically located between Energiekontor’s Holtumer Moor wind park, which is currently under development for the company’s own portfolio, and the Völkersen site, which has already been sold. The Haberloh park will comprise eleven Vestas V162-7.2 turbines, each delivering 7.2 megawatts of rated output, while the Heidkrug project will feature two turbines of the same type. With hub heights of 169 meters and a rotor diameter of 162 meters, the installations are designed to deliver maximum efficiency. Once fully operational, the parks are expected to generate an average of 217 gigawatt hours of electricity per year—enough to power more than 66,000 German households and reduce CO₂ emissions by over 160,000 tonnes annually.

Beyond their renewable energy output, the projects are designed to provide long-term benefits for the local community. Revenue streams from leases will be partially allocated to charitable initiatives, while municipal and trade taxes from energy production will further strengthen regional finances. Local citizens will also have the opportunity to participate directly. At the same time, extensive environmental measures are being implemented, including habitat restoration for birds of prey, conversion of farmland into grassland, the creation of new standing water ecosystems, and large-scale replanting initiatives.

Commenting on the achievement, Peter Szabo, CEO of Energiekontor AG, stated: “With these two wind projects, Energiekontor has already advanced nine wind and solar developments with a combined capacity of more than 250 megawatts to construction readiness this financial year alone. In total, 17 projects representing more than 540 megawatts are now under construction. This includes over 200 megawatts destined for our own portfolio, alongside turnkey projects in Germany that will contribute to Group earnings in the years ahead. We are operating at historically high construction levels and will continue to pursue additional financial closes and project sales to expand this momentum.”

For nearly 35 years, Energiekontor has built its reputation as one of Germany’s leading pioneers in renewable energy. Established in 1990 in Bremerhaven, the company develops, builds, and manages wind and solar parks across Germany and internationally. In addition to operating 39 parks with a combined capacity of 444 megawatts in its own portfolio, Energiekontor has realised more than 170 renewable energy projects worldwide, amounting to over 1.5 gigawatts of installed power and an investment volume exceeding €2.3 billion. With a project pipeline of 11.4 gigawatts as of mid-2024, Energiekontor continues to position itself as a key driver of Europe’s clean energy expansion.
