EIB Institute Strengthens Gaza Relief Efforts with Targeted Humanitarian Aid for Children and Vulnerable Families

(IN BRIEF) The EIB Institute has pledged €750,000 in humanitarian aid to support urgent medical and nutritional assistance in Gaza, focusing on children, pregnant women, and vulnerable families. The funds will be channelled through Welthungerhilfe and CARE, two experienced NGOs with on-the-ground networks. This new donation follows a previous €250,000 contribution in 2024 and forms part of the EIB Group’s broader commitment to humanitarian action and economic resilience in Palestine. Alongside emergency relief, the EIB recently launched a €400 million facility with the Palestine Monetary Authority under the EU’s €1.6 billion recovery programme to boost Palestinian businesses and long-term stability.

(PRESS RELEASE) LUXEMBOURG, 23-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The EIB Institute, the philanthropic and social impact arm of the European Investment Bank Group (EIB Group), has announced a €750,000 humanitarian donation to support medical and nutritional aid for vulnerable populations in Gaza. The assistance will focus primarily on healthcare and nutrition, targeting children, pregnant women, and other at-risk groups following the recent conflict and the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict.

Funds will be channelled through two international non-governmental organisations, Welthungerhilfe and CARE, which have well-established local operations in Gaza. The donation will enable these organisations to deliver lifesaving health services, such as screening and treatment for acute malnutrition in children, maternal and reproductive care, and disease prevention programmes, alongside emergency nutritional support for the most affected families.

“This donation shows the EIB Group’s solidarity with the Palestinian people. In line with the EU’s efforts to deliver humanitarian aid through close cooperation with UN agencies and NGOs, we stand with those most affected by the conflict by ensuring urgent medical and nutritional support reaches them quickly and efficiently,” said EIB President Nadia Calviño.

EIB Vice-President Gelsomina Vigliotti, who oversees the Bank’s operations in the Middle East, added: “With this donation, we aim to help our trusted humanitarian partners bring life-saving medical assistance and relief to people in Gaza, focusing especially on the most vulnerable groups suffering the greatest hardship.”

This new contribution builds on the EIB Institute’s earlier €250,000 donation in 2024, which helped 90,000 people in Gaza gain access to essential healthcare and mental health services, and provided emergency food and nutrition support to more than 7,500 individuals.

Beyond immediate humanitarian aid, the EIB Group continues to strengthen its support for Palestinian economic recovery. Recently, the Bank signed a €400 million financing facility with the Palestine Monetary Authority (PMA) to bolster the resilience of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and Mid-Caps — vital drivers of the Palestinian economy. This operation forms part of the European Commission’s €1.6 billion Multiannual and Comprehensive Programme for Palestinian Recovery and Resilience (2025–2027), which includes €620 million in grants to the Palestinian Authority and €580 million for resilience projects in Gaza and the West Bank, complemented by the EIB’s €400 million loan facility guaranteed by the European Commission.

The EIB Institute has a long history of providing emergency relief during global crises, including aid for those affected by the war in Ukraine, the earthquakes in Türkiye, Syria, and Morocco, and floods in Slovenia and Spain. In Gaza, all disbursements will undergo strict integrity and compliance checks to ensure funds are properly managed and reach those most in need.
