(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 27-Mar-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing an additional €50 million loan to Fraport TAV Antalya Yatirim Yapim ve Isletme (FTA) in Türkiye to finance the completion of Antalya Airport.

The upgrades to the airport will contribute to greater operational efficiencies and help optimise the capacity of the existing infrastructure. The ongoing capex programme will result in the implementation of key carbon- and energy-saving measures, including Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-Gold-certified terminals, solar photovoltaic integration, and the use of advanced terminal-operating and energy-consumption-monitoring systems.

FTA is a joint venture between global airport operators Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide (Fraport) and TAV Airports Holding (TAV Airports). The two sponsors are currently operating Antalya Airport under an existing concession that expires at the end of 2026.

The loan follows a previous EBRD loan of €140 million, which was provided in March 2023, which is part of a €2.3 billion financing package that includes funds from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Underlining the Bank’s ongoing support for enhancing connectivity and infrastructure in the region, the extended financing will allow FTA to complete the investment programme before its new 25-year concession for Antalya Airport begins in 2027.

The company has also committed to continuing its work on promoting the participation of women in the sector, leveraging its extensive supply chain and contracting relationships.

The EBRD is one of the key investors in Türkiye, with almost €19.5 billion invested in 440 projects and trade facilitation lines since 2009, the majority of them in the private sector.
