EBRD Expands Investment in Green Genius to €150 Million to Accelerate Renewable Energy and Storage Projects in the Baltics and Poland

(IN BRIEF) The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has increased its investment in Green Genius by €50 million, bringing its total commitment to €150 million. The funding will support the company’s renewable energy expansion across Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland, with a particular focus on battery energy storage systems. The investment will help integrate renewable energy sources, improve grid resilience, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Green Genius, part of Modus Group, continues to grow its renewable portfolio, while the EBRD reinforces its role in supporting the region’s transition to a more sustainable and secure energy system.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 30-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has expanded its investment in Green Genius with an additional €50 million equity commitment, reinforcing its support for renewable energy development across the Baltic region and Poland. This follow-on investment increases the EBRD’s total stake in the company to €150 million, following its initial €100 million investment in 2024.

Green Genius, a subsidiary of Modus Group, continues to advance a 1.9 GW renewable energy pipeline spanning Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland. The newly secured capital will be directed toward expanding battery energy storage systems (BESS) and accelerating the development of new renewable energy assets across these markets.

A key focus of the investment is the rollout of utility-scale battery storage projects, including one of the first such installations in Lithuania. These systems play a crucial role in balancing electricity supply and demand, enabling greater integration of renewable sources such as wind and solar, and enhancing grid stability and resilience.

Grzegorz Zielinski, Head of Energy Europe at the EBRD, highlighted that the additional funding will support both the continued expansion of Green Genius and the development of a more diversified and resilient energy system across the region.

Tomas Kairys, Head of the Baltic States at the EBRD, described the transaction as a significant milestone for the Bank’s activities in the region. He noted that the investment aligns with strategic priorities focused on strengthening local energy champions and enhancing infrastructure reliability, particularly through the introduction of large-scale battery storage.

Ruslan Sklepovič, Chief Executive Officer of Green Genius, stated that the increased investment reflects confidence in the company’s strategy and performance. He emphasized that the new funding will allow the company to intensify its efforts in developing energy storage solutions, which are critical for ensuring a stable and sustainable energy system.

To date, Green Genius has developed 933 MW of renewable energy capacity, with 298 MW currently retained within its portfolio. Its activities cover solar, onshore wind, biomethane, and battery storage technologies.

The EBRD continues to play a major role in supporting energy transition efforts across the Baltic region and Poland. Its cumulative investments include €2.1 billion in Lithuania, €1.3 billion in Latvia, and €16.7 billion in Poland, with a strong focus on renewable energy, innovation, and infrastructure resilience.
