(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 5-Jun-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a new five-year strategy for Bulgaria, outlining the Bank’s investment and policy engagement priorities for the country from 2025 to 2030. The strategy focuses on three key areas: the green transition, enhancing competitiveness, and strengthening resilience.

Manuela Naessl, EBRD Head of Bulgaria, stated, “Our engagement in Bulgaria over the next five years will focus on three major themes that are also national priorities: accelerating the green economy transition, boosting competitiveness through innovation and financial market development, and strengthening economic resilience and regional integration.”

As a major investor in Bulgaria, the EBRD has consistently supported sustainable infrastructure, private sector growth, and inclusive development. The Bank also provides advisory services to the Government and works to mobilize private investments alongside its own financing. The new strategy aligns closely with Bulgaria’s national goals and the EU’s broader commitments.

With over €4.7 billion invested in Bulgaria to date, the EBRD’s commitment to the country remains strong. In 2024, EBRD investments more than doubled, reaching €272 million across 20 projects, up from €114 million in the previous year. Over 90% of these investments were dedicated to supporting Bulgaria’s green transition, reinforcing the Bank’s mission to foster sustainable development and private sector expansion.
