This marks the conclusion of a deal first announced in March 2023 and reflects Digi Spain’s continuing expansion in Spain’s telecom market.

(NEWS) BUCHAREST, Romania, 2-Oct-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Digi Communications N.V., has confirmed that its Spanish subsidiary, Digi Spain Telecom S.L.U., together with an investment vehicle of Aberdeen Group plc, has successfully completed the fourth and final investment round for the rollout of a Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) network in Andalusia, as announced in a press release on 1 Oct 2025 via EuropaWire. The project, first announced in March 2023, will cover 2.5 million homes across 124 municipalities and represents a total investment of €300 million, shared in equal parts by Digi Spain and Aberdeen, with bank financing also involved.

This latest milestone follows the initial funding round completed in October 2023, which enabled the deployment of fiber to 1.35 million homes, setting the foundation for the wider Andalusian network expansion.

The FTTH project in Andalusia builds on Digi Spain’s rapid evolution in the Spanish market. The company first entered the fixed broadband and telephony sector in September 2018, launching services under a wholesale agreement with Telefónica to extend FTTH and ADSL access in Madrid, with plans to expand across other provinces. Two years later, Digi Spain strengthened its presence by extending its mobile access partnership with Telefónica through the Spanish MVNO Agreement, ensuring continuity of its spectrum and infrastructure use until 2026.

In more recent years, Digi Spain has broadened its strategic foundation with spectrum acquisitions and network deals. In December 2023, the company invested €120 million to acquire spectrum licenses in the 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz, and 3,500 MHz bands, alongside an option agreement with Orange España for national roaming. It further bolstered its infrastructure plans with a 16-year national roaming and RAN sharing agreement signed with Telefónica in July 2024, effective from January 2025, supporting its transition into a full mobile network operator (MNO).

At the same time, Digi Spain has engaged in significant FTTH transactions. In April 2024, it agreed to sell a fiber network in 12 provinces to Sota Investments for up to €750 million, followed by the completion of the first stage of this sale in September 2024, transferring an initial 4.4 million homes.

Operationally, Digi Spain has also posted strong growth. As of February 2025, the company had surpassed two million fixed broadband customers with more than 12 million homes covered by its optical fiber network, alongside over six million mobile lines. Its financial performance has been equally notable, achieving one of the lowest debt-to-EBITDA ratios among major telecom operators in Spain.

Most recently, Digi Communications addressed speculation about a potential IPO of Digi Spain in a September 2025 clarification, emphasizing that while strategic options are regularly reviewed, it has no plans to relinquish control of its Spanish subsidiary.

With the €300 million Andalusian FTTH project now fully financed and underway, Digi Spain continues to position itself as a fast-growing force in Spain’s telecom sector, combining infrastructure expansion, spectrum investment, and strategic partnerships to fuel its long-term growth.
