E.ON Partners with Germany’s BImA to Expand Electric Vehicle Charging Network Across Federal Properties by 2027

(IN BRIEF) Germany’s Institute for Federal Real Estate (BImA) has partnered with E.ON to install 7,000 electric vehicle charging points across federal properties by 2027. The charging stations will support federal ministries, research institutes, and other government agencies, with a focus on electrifying vehicle fleets and providing convenient charging options for employees and visitors. E.ON will manage the installation, operation, and digital load management of the stations, all powered by 100% green electricity. The partnership highlights the importance of electric mobility in sustainability and climate protection while addressing the growing demand for charging infrastructure across Germany.

(PRESS RELEASE) ESSEN, 5-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Germany’s Institute for Federal Real Estate (BImA) is taking significant steps to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure across federal properties, in collaboration with E.ON. By the second quarter of 2027, E.ON will install 7,000 new charging points, complete with advanced digital load management systems, across various sites in Germany. These charging stations will cater to federal institutions such as ministries, research centers, and other government agencies, facilitating the electrification of their vehicle fleets while providing convenient charging options for employees and visitors.

Christoph Ebert, Board Member of E.ON Drive responsible for the DACH region, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “Electromobility is rapidly advancing, and the public sector is embracing this change. We are committed to expanding the charging network on federal properties, ensuring that electric vehicle users—whether for business or commuting—have access to reliable and accessible charging infrastructure. We are excited to work closely with BImA to quickly and efficiently roll out this crucial project, bringing us closer to our vision of easy charging everywhere.”

Brigitte Bourscheidt, Head of Facility Management at BImA, highlighted the role of electric mobility in sustainability: “As the federal government’s real estate provider, it is our responsibility to support the transition to electric mobility. Feedback from our users has highlighted the need for more charging points for their vehicle fleets. By implementing these solutions, we are making a direct contribution to climate protection and the broader energy transition.”

The collaboration between E.ON and BImA will see the installation of both charging stations and wallboxes at various locations across the country. E.ON will tailor the charging solutions to meet the specific needs of users, from DC fast chargers to AC chargers and wallboxes, depending on driving patterns and parking durations. E.ON will also manage the installation and operation of these stations, all of which will be powered by 100% green electricity.

The smart charging and load management system is a standout feature of this project. It takes into account the varying needs of different user groups, such as prioritizing emergency or company vehicles for fast charging. This system allows for dynamic load adjustment, ensuring that the maximum available charge is provided where needed most, while minimizing the impact on other users, such as visitors. This intelligent system not only optimizes charging efficiency but also helps in managing energy consumption and reducing costs.

E.ON’s support in electrifying the federal administration’s fleet is part of a broader strategy to help the German government meet its climate goals. The federal government is committed to transitioning to electric vehicles across its fleets while simultaneously establishing the infrastructure to support these vehicles across the country.

For E.ON, this project is another step toward realizing its vision of accelerating the shift to electric mobility across Europe. The company is heavily investing in expanding the European charging infrastructure, aiming to provide comprehensive solutions for home, workplace, and on-the-go charging. With this partnership, E.ON solidifies its position as a key player in the electrification of vehicle fleets for businesses, public administrations, and local authorities.
