Dumarey Group to Acquire MAHLE Powertrain USA in Strategic Deal

(IN BRIEF) MAHLE has signed an agreement to sell its U.S. engineering services division, MAHLE Powertrain USA, to the Dumarey Group, with the deal expected to close in Q1 2025. The transaction includes the Plymouth, Michigan facility, which employs around 70 people and provides testing and engineering services. However, MAHLE’s Powertrain branches in Europe and Asia will remain part of the company. The decision to sell the U.S. branch is driven by MAHLE’s strategic review of its position in the highly competitive U.S. market. Dumarey Group, a Belgian supplier of powertrain solutions, views the acquisition as a significant step in strengthening its presence in the U.S. and fostering growth.

(PRESS RELEASE) STUTTGART, 9-Jan-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — In a significant move, MAHLE has reached an agreement with the Dumarey Group for the sale of its MAHLE Powertrain (MPT) USA division. The purchase, which includes the MPT facility in Plymouth, Michigan, was finalized in late 2024, with the transaction expected to close in the first quarter of 2025. This sale involves around 70 employees who provide testing and engineering services for U.S. customers. However, MAHLE’s MPT branches outside of the U.S., including those in Europe and Asia, will remain part of the MAHLE Group and continue to operate as part of the company’s global R&D network.

MAHLE Powertrain, a key engineering arm of the MAHLE Group, specializes in providing consultancy and engineering services focused on the design, development, and testing of electrified powertrain systems and hybridized internal combustion engines. The decision to divest the U.S. branch comes as part of MAHLE’s ongoing review of its long-term strategic goals. The U.S. engineering services market is highly competitive, and with MPT USA’s small market share, MAHLE believes the business will have more growth potential outside of the group.

Dr. Marco Warth, Vice President of MAHLE Corporate Research and Advanced Engineering, commented, “The Dumarey Group’s strong U.S. market focus and tailored growth strategy make them the ideal partner to lead the business outside of MAHLE, ensuring its success in the future.”

The Dumarey Group, formerly known as PUNCH Group, is an independent Belgian supplier specializing in powertrain solutions, from development to integration and manufacturing. Pierpaolo Antonioli, Chief Technology Officer of Dumarey Group, remarked, “This acquisition is a key step in our strategy, further cementing our connection to the U.S. market. It reinforces our commitment to growth and innovation while continuing our collaborative efforts with U.S. companies.”
