DHL Express opens new EUR 100 million carbon-neutral gateway at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to boost Finnish trade

The 16,000 m² carbon-neutral facility is equipped with automated sorting technology that can process 6,500 shipments per hour, 90 direct loading bays with electric vehicle charging, and direct apron access for faster aircraft handling. Scheduled to begin customer deliveries in October 2025, the gateway doubles DHL’s operational capacity in Finland while advancing its global zero-emissions goal for 2050. (PRESS RELEASE) HELSINKI, 4-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — DHL Express Finland has inaugurated a state-of-the-art logistics gateway at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, representing the largest investment in the company’s history in Finland. With a total value of approximately EUR 100 million, the new 16,000 m² facility significantly expands capacity and efficiency, supporting the evolving needs of global supply chains while advancing sustainability goals.

The modern gateway is equipped with an advanced automated sorting system capable of handling up to 6,500 shipments per hour. It also features 90 direct loading bays that connect conveyor systems directly to delivery vehicles, all fitted with electric charging points. With direct access to the airport apron, the facility enables faster aircraft loading and unloading, further strengthening Finland’s role as a vital logistics hub. The first customer deliveries from the new gateway are scheduled to begin in October 2025.

Sustainability is a cornerstone of the project. The terminal is designed to be carbon neutral, relying on geothermal heating, solar energy, energy-efficient construction, LED lighting, and advanced building automation. Robust security features include TAPA A certification and state-of-the-art X-ray scanning equipment for air freight handling.
