Czech Republic orders Saab MSHORAD worth SEK 1.8 billion with deliveries slated for 2028–2030

(IN BRIEF) The Czech Ministry of Defence has ordered Saab’s MSHORAD system in a SEK 1.8 billion deal, with deliveries from 2028 to 2030. The order covers RBS 70 NG-based mobile firing units with Bolide missiles, mounted on Czech-built MARS S‑330 vehicles from SVOS. A Czech partner will co-deliver the command-and-control system, while an in-service radar will be integrated to complete the solution. Saab notes that the Czech Armed Forces already use the man-portable RBS 70 NG; MSHORAD adds a fast, vehicle-borne layer of protection for manoeuvring troops. Saab’s MSHORAD is modular, pairing radar sensors, firing units and C2, and can be supplied turnkey or as individual components aligned to customer inventories.

(PRESS RELEASE) STOCKHOLM, 23-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Saab has secured a SEK 1.8 billion contract from the Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of the Czech Republic for its Mobile Short-Range Air Defence (MSHORAD) solution. Deliveries are scheduled between 2028 and 2030. The package features mobile firing units built around the RBS 70 NG short‑range missile system and Bolide missiles, all to be integrated on the Czech‑manufactured MARS S‑330 vehicle from SVOS.

The configuration also includes a command-and-control system that Saab will deliver in partnership with a Czech supplier, plus a third‑party radar already fielded by the Czech Armed Forces. Together, these elements create a highly mobile, networked shield designed to safeguard troops on the move.

“We are proud to continue supporting the Czech Armed Forces’ capability, who already operate our RBS 70 NG air defence system in its man-portable setup. Our MSHORAD solution complements this with a highly mobile configuration, providing additional protection for troops on the move,” says Görgen Johansson, head of Saab’s business area Dynamics.

MSHORAD is Saab’s modular, vehicle-integrated air defence architecture. It combines detection (radar units), engagement (firing units) and a digital command-and-control backbone. Saab can supply a turnkey system or integrate selected modules into a customer’s existing assets, allowing nations to tailor the level of mobility, coverage and interoperability they need.
