Crédit Agricole Italia Appoints Hugues Brasseur as New CEO, Giampiero Maioli to Become Chairman

(IN BRIEF) On February 12, 2025, Crédit Agricole Italia’s Board of Directors appointed Hugues Brasseur as the new CEO, effective after the General Meeting on April 23, 2025, where he will also be nominated Managing Director. He will replace Giampiero Maioli, who has served as CEO and Senior Country Officer for the Group in Italy. Maioli will be proposed as Chairman after the General Meeting. Hugues Brasseur brings extensive experience from various leadership roles within the Crédit Agricole group, while Maioli has been instrumental in Crédit Agricole’s growth and operations in Italy. The appointments are pending regulatory approval. (PRESS RELEASE) MONTROUGE, 13-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — On February 12, 2025, Crédit Agricole Italia’s Board of Directors convened in an extraordinary session and appointed Hugues Brasseur as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer. This appointment will also be proposed for approval at the General Meeting on April 23, 2025, where Brasseur will be nominated as Managing Director of Crédit Agricole Italia.

In his new role, Hugues Brasseur will also serve as the Senior Country Officer for Crédit Agricole S.A. in Italy and will join the Executive Committee of Crédit Agricole S.A. He takes over from Giampiero Maioli, who has been the CEO and Senior Country Officer for the Group in Italy. Following the upcoming General Meeting, Maioli will be proposed as the new Chairman of Crédit Agricole Italia, succeeding Ariberto Fassati. Fassati has made significant contributions over the past two decades to the group’s success in Italy.

Giampiero Maioli’s leadership has been pivotal in expanding Crédit Agricole’s operations in Italy. Under his guidance, the company has successfully grown both organically and through external operations, enhancing synergies with various business lines. He led the integration of Credito Valtellinese and the merger with CA Friuladria, culminating in the creation of Crédit Agricole Italia in 2017.

The appointments of Hugues Brasseur and Giampiero Maioli are still subject to approval by the relevant regulatory authorities.

Biographies:

Giampiero Maioli has extensive experience in the banking industry, having previously coordinated operations between Cariparma and the Banca Intesa group. He played a key role in the establishment of the Cariparma Crédit Agricole group and became its CEO in 2007. In 2010, he was named Managing Director, and he was instrumental in integrating Credito Valtellinese and merging with CA Friuladria. As CEO of Crédit Agricole Italia since 2012, he has been a member of the Executive Committee of Crédit Agricole S.A. and Vice-President of the Italian Banking Association.

Hugues Brasseur began his career at the Banques Populaires group before moving to KPMG Peat Marwick in 1995. He joined Crédit Agricole in 2000 and has held various leadership roles, including Head of Development and Banking Services at the Caisse régionale Val-de-France and Head of the Retail Market at Crédit Agricole S.A. In 2017, he became CEO of the Caisse régionale de l’Anjou et du Maine. Brasseur holds a postgraduate degree in international finance and taxation from the University of Lille II and a Higher Diploma in Accounting and Finance (DESCF).
