Covestro completes acquisition of Swiss adhesive film specialist Pontacol to expand Solutions & Specialties segment

(IN BRIEF) Covestro has completed its acquisition of Pontacol, a Swiss producer of multilayer adhesive films, effective August 28, 2025. The deal expands Covestro’s Solutions & Specialties segment by adding advanced flat and blown adhesive films, strengthening its presence in growth markets such as medical technology, mobility, and textiles. Two production sites in Switzerland and Germany are included in the acquisition, enhancing Covestro’s global manufacturing footprint. Pontacol’s expertise, technologies, and customer base complement Covestro’s portfolio and create additional value potential.

(PRESS RELEASE) LEVERKUSEN, 29-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Covestro has strengthened its Solutions & Specialties segment with the completed acquisition of Pontacol, a Swiss-based manufacturer of multilayer adhesive films. The transaction, announced in June 2025, officially closed on August 28, 2025.

With this move, Covestro is strategically broadening its films business by adding highly specialized flat and blown adhesive films. These products expand the company’s portfolio and create new growth opportunities in sectors where functional films are increasingly in demand, particularly medical technology, mobility, and textiles.

The acquisition includes two specialized production sites, located in Switzerland and Germany, which will now become part of Covestro’s global manufacturing network. This expansion not only increases regional availability of adhesive films but also brings additional technological expertise, new customer relationships, and a stronger value proposition for Covestro’s existing portfolio.

Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. The acquisition was financed through cash, reflecting Covestro’s commitment to maintaining a solid investment-grade rating.

Pontacol, headquartered in Schmitten, Switzerland, with a subsidiary in Buxtehude, Germany, has over 50 years of expertise in thermoplastic adhesive films. Its ultra-thin films are used worldwide in applications ranging from automotive, textiles, and composites to electronics and ballistic protection. The company employs around 100 people and is recognized as a leading competence center in the field.
