Continental Expands Terra Range with New Terra Competition Gravel Tire Designed for Speed and Multi Surface Riding

The Terra Competition features a specialized tread pattern optimized for rough tarmac, compressed soils, and light gravel in dry to moist conditions.

(IN BRIEF) Continental has launched the Terra Competition, the fastest gravel tire in its Terra Range, designed to combine road-bike efficiency with reliable performance on light off-road terrain. The tire features an aerodynamic tread design with a continuous center section for speed and pronounced shoulder knobs for traction on gravel and compacted surfaces. Available with Race and Trail casing options and specialized rubber compounds, the Terra Competition provides riders with choices tailored to speed-focused or more demanding off-road use. The tire delivers reduced weight and rolling resistance compared with previous models while maintaining puncture protection and tubeless compatibility, making it suitable for mixed-surface cycling.

(PRESS RELEASE) HANOVER, 27-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Continental has expanded its Terra Range with the introduction of the Terra Competition, a new gravel tire engineered to deliver road-like speed while maintaining reliable performance on light off-road terrain. Designed for riders who regularly transition between asphalt and gravel routes, the new tire combines aerodynamic efficiency with versatile multi-surface capability.

The Terra Competition is built to perform across a variety of surfaces including uneven tarmac, compacted dirt tracks and light gravel in dry to moderately damp conditions. Its tread design features a nearly continuous center section that enhances rolling efficiency and straight-line speed, while pronounced shoulder elements improve traction and control when riding off-road.

For the first time within the Terra Range, the Terra Competition has been developed with a strong emphasis on aerodynamic performance. The tire’s design aims to minimize drag while maintaining efficiency on paved surfaces, making it suitable for riders seeking high performance across mixed terrain.

Alexander Haenke, MTB and Gravel Product Manager at Continental Tires, explained that the Terra Competition was created for cyclists who want both speed and versatility in a single tire. The design responds to the growing popularity of mixed-surface riding by offering efficient performance on paved roads alongside dependable handling on gravel.

To accommodate different riding styles and terrain conditions, the Terra Competition is offered with two casing options. The Race casing, paired with the Rapid compound, is optimized for riders prioritizing speed and acceleration on smoother terrain and climbing sections. The Trail casing, combined with the Grip compound, is designed for more demanding off-road routes and features a reinforced single-ply construction that improves durability and puncture resistance.

The Terra Competition also offers significant performance improvements in both weight and rolling efficiency. The 35-622 Race version weighs approximately 345 grams, representing a weight reduction of up to 16 percent compared with comparable models. Rolling resistance has been reduced by up to 17 percent relative to the Terra Speed 35-622 tire.

Both Race and Trail variants include a textile breaker layer beneath the tread to enhance puncture protection. The tires incorporate Continental’s BlackChilli compound, which is designed to balance grip and durability while maintaining efficient rolling characteristics.

All Terra Competition models are Tubeless Ready and compatible with hookless rims, allowing riders to benefit from improved traction and reduced puncture risk when using tubeless setups.

Available in 35-622, 40-622 and 45-622 sizes, the Terra Competition provides a range of options suitable for different riding preferences and terrain conditions.
