Colas Rail UK Secures €40 Million Five Year Contract to Operate Network Rail’s Mobile Maintenance Train Fleet

(IN BRIEF) Colas Rail UK has been awarded a five-year contract by Network Rail worth around €40 million to operate and maintain a fleet of eight Mobile Maintenance Trains used across Britain’s rail network. Built by Robel, the trains serve as mobile workshops that allow engineers and track workers to perform repairs, upgrades and renewal work across the country’s 20,000-mile rail infrastructure more efficiently and safely. The trains help minimise disruption to passenger and freight services by providing a protected and fully equipped workspace directly on the rail network. Positioned strategically across Network Rail’s delivery units in England, the fleet enables rapid response to infrastructure maintenance needs. The contract highlights Network Rail’s continued confidence in Colas Rail’s operational capabilities and technical expertise. With more than 25 years of experience in the UK rail sector and expertise across twelve rail disciplines, Colas Rail continues to support the development and maintenance of safe and sustainable railway infrastructure.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 14-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Colas Rail UK has secured a five-year agreement with Network Rail to operate and maintain its fleet of Mobile Maintenance Trains (MMTs). The contract, valued at approximately €40 million, will support maintenance operations across Britain’s rail network.

The eight Mobile Maintenance Trains, manufactured by Robel, play a crucial role in enabling engineers and track teams to carry out essential works such as repairs, upgrades and infrastructure renewals across the 20,000-mile British rail network.

Designed as mobile engineering platforms, the trains function as fully equipped “workshops on wheels.” They allow maintenance crews to complete complex tasks more efficiently while maintaining high safety standards. By providing dedicated onboard facilities and equipment, the trains create a protected working environment for railway staff and help minimise disruption to passenger and freight services.

The fleet is strategically positioned across several Network Rail delivery units throughout England, ensuring rapid deployment to locations where track maintenance and infrastructure improvements are required.

The award of the contract reflects Network Rail’s continued confidence in Colas Rail as a trusted partner for maintaining critical railway infrastructure. According to Hervé Le Joliff, the agreement highlights the expertise of Colas Rail’s teams and their ability to deliver innovative and reliable operational solutions for complex rail networks.

Colas Rail has been active in the United Kingdom for more than 25 years, bringing together expertise across twelve specialist rail disciplines. The company focuses on designing, building and maintaining rail systems while advancing transport infrastructure that is safe, efficient and environmentally sustainable.
