CDP Assessment Highlights Continental’s Commitment to Renewable Energy Sustainable Materials and Water Conservation

CDP Assessment Highlights Continental’s Commitment to Renewable Energy Sustainable Materials and Water Conservation

(IN BRIEF) Continental has earned an “A-” rating from CDP for its climate transparency and emissions reduction efforts, alongside a continued “B” rating in water management, highlighting sustained progress in sustainability performance. The recognition reflects the company’s use of renewable electricity, efficiency improvements across production, reduced water consumption and initiatives to create more transparent and responsible raw-material supply chains. Through investments in alternative materials and energy-saving technologies, Continental aims to lower its environmental footprint while advancing sustainable tire manufacturing and contributing to broader climate action goals.

(PRESS RELEASE) HANOVER, 18-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Continental has received an “A-” rating from the global environmental disclosure organization CDP, recognising the company’s transparency and progress in climate protection and CO₂ reduction initiatives. The evaluation places Continental among companies demonstrating strong commitment to tackling climate change and managing sustainable supply chains.

The CDP assessment highlighted Continental’s consistent performance in areas such as emissions reduction initiatives, development of low-carbon products and implementation of environmental policies. The company also maintained a “B” rating for water management for the second consecutive year, reflecting ongoing efforts to conserve resources across its operations.

Continental has implemented a range of measures aimed at lowering greenhouse gas emissions and optimising resource use throughout the entire tire lifecycle, from raw-material sourcing to production, use and end-of-life management. Since 2020, the company has sourced renewable electricity as part of its participation in the RE100 initiative, combining energy generated by on-site photovoltaic systems with power secured through long-term purchase agreements that support regional wind and solar projects. These steps contribute to reducing Scope 2 emissions while ensuring reliable and cost-stable renewable energy supply.

Additional efficiency improvements, including upgraded insulation in thermal production facilities, expanded LED lighting installations and proactive detection of energy losses, have further lowered overall consumption and emissions. Water conservation is another priority: between 2020 and 2025, the company reduced water withdrawal per metric ton of product by more than 10% across its production network, saving approximately 197 million liters through efficiency, treatment and reuse initiatives.

Continental has also strengthened transparency and traceability within its raw-material supply chains, introducing strict sourcing standards, engaging with local partners such as natural rubber smallholders, and investing in alternative materials with lower environmental impact. These include silica derived from rice husk ash, bio-based residues from the paper industry and polyester fibers produced from recycled PET bottles.

CDP’s ratings provide an independent benchmark for assessing corporate environmental performance and encourage continued progress in climate action, water stewardship and sustainable sourcing. Continental has participated in the CDP disclosure process for 15 years, using the framework to guide its sustainability strategy and demonstrate accountability to investors and stakeholders.
