(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 6-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Capgemini has renewed its collaboration with Peugeot Sport, continuing the development of the 9X8 Hypercar for the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC). The partnership focuses on utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the Hypercar’s performance and support efforts in reducing Peugeot Sport’s carbon footprint.

Over the past two years, Capgemini’s data engineering team has created a robust platform to analyze race data from both real and simulated scenarios. This AI-driven system, embedded in the PEUGEOT 9X8’s onboard computer, processes data in real-time, optimizing the Hypercar’s performance and significantly reducing analysis time—tasks that previously took a full day can now be completed in just ten minutes.

Looking ahead, the collaboration will expand to incorporate generative AI, which will analyze sensor data over extended testing or racing periods. The AI will also help structure and analyze communications between drivers and engineers during long-duration races, generating actionable insights to improve the vehicle’s performance.

In parallel, Capgemini has supported Peugeot Sport’s decarbonization initiatives, part of Stellantis Motorsport’s broader sustainability strategy. Starting in 2022, Capgemini helped calculate the carbon footprint of the motorsport ecosystem, identifying over 30 actions to reduce emissions by 2030. Key measures include eco-design practices in vehicle R&D, supplier engagement for decarbonization, and the use of renewable biofuels to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 85%. These steps have already resulted in the implementation of various projects that contribute to sustainability while maintaining high-performance standards.

Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP of Stellantis Motorsport, commented on the partnership, emphasizing the importance of AI in their racing strategy and the continued progress in sustainability goals. “The partnership with Capgemini allows us to monitor key decarbonization indicators to ensure we stay on track with our ambitious goals for 2030,” he stated.

Andrea Falleni, CEO of Capgemini in Southern Europe, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to enhancing Peugeot Sport’s performance while reducing the environmental impact of motorsports. “We’re excited to continue working with Peugeot Sport, bringing cutting-edge AI technologies and expertise in decarbonization to the motorsport industry,” he added.

This partnership highlights Capgemini’s ongoing sports sponsorship strategy, focused on enhancing performance through technology and promoting sustainability in major global events.
