BT Expands Global Fabric Network Across Equinix Data Centres to Drive Digital Connectivity for Businesses

(IN BRIEF) BT and Equinix have announced a significant expansion of their partnership, aimed at transforming digital interconnectivity for multinational businesses. BT’s AI-ready Global Fabric platform, a network-as-a-service (NaaS) solution, is now available in more than 30 Equinix data centres globally, with plans to extend to over 40 by next year. This will provide businesses with access to top-tier locations for seamless connectivity to the cloud, hyperscalers, and key data centres, enabling faster innovation and improved performance across their digital ecosystems.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 21-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — BT and Equinix revealed the expansion of their strategic partnership, bringing BT’s Global Fabric network-as-a-service (NaaS) solution to over 30 Equinix data centres, with a future goal of reaching more than 40 locations by the end of next year. This expansion will enhance connectivity in the world’s top 30 business locations, covering 95% of global cloud interconnection traffic. When fully implemented, Global Fabric will be available at 140 points of presence (PoPs) across 40 countries, providing pre-provisioned high-bandwidth connectivity to over 700 data centres and ensuring direct coverage of 74% of hyperscaler clouds.

Global Fabric offers organizations the ability to securely and flexibly scale their network interconnections across their digital value chain. The solution empowers companies to quickly deploy and manage connectivity to their customers, suppliers, and other key business partners, with seamless integration into their cloud environments and digital services such as AI. This service is designed with resilience in mind, ensuring superior network performance and flexibility compared to traditional legacy networks.

Through the expansion, BT’s customers will benefit from an extensive range of digital services provided by Equinix, which interconnects over 2,000 network services, 3,000 cloud and IT services, and 400 content and digital media services. This collaboration continues to build on BT’s success in quantum-secure communications with Equinix, following their achievement of the UK’s first data centre-to-data centre quantum-secure connection.

As businesses increasingly turn to digital channels, the need for fast, reliable, and flexible connectivity grows. The BT-Equinix partnership is designed to address this demand, enabling organizations to innovate and scale faster while enhancing their digital ecosystems.

“By partnering with Equinix, BT is able to provide our customers with unrivaled access to the global digital ecosystem,” said Matt Swinden, Director of Digital Connectivity at BT. “This enhanced network, alongside Equinix’s robust platform, allows businesses to seamlessly interconnect with the world’s leading cloud and IT services, driving improved business performance and outcomes.”

Arun Dev, Global Interconnections at Equinix, added, “This partnership allows BT to offer its customers critical access to our global infrastructure and services, helping them to digitally transform and expand with ease.”
