Boskalis Launches Remote Operations Center in Aberdeen to Advance Subsea ROV Capabilities

(IN BRIEF) Boskalis has successfully launched remote subsea operations from its new Remote Operations Center in Aberdeen, following significant investment and development. The facility enables ROVs to be controlled from shore, improving safety, efficiency, and operational coordination. After successful testing in the North Sea, the company plans to expand the center’s capabilities, while also creating new onshore roles to support its growing subsea services operations.

(PRESS RELEASE) PAPENDRECHT, 13-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Boskalis has successfully completed the first deployment of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) from its newly established Remote Operations Center (ROC) in Aberdeen. This achievement follows an 18-month development program and a total investment of approximately GBP 40 million dedicated to both the ROV fleet and the facility itself.

The ROC represents a major advancement in Boskalis’ subsea capabilities, enabling critical offshore operations to be monitored and controlled directly from shore. By centralizing operational oversight, the facility supports vessel crews with real-time expertise, enhances coordination across projects, and contributes to improved efficiency and safety standards.

Bart Heijermans, Chief Operating Officer and member of the company’s Board of Management, described the launch as a significant milestone that demonstrates how technology-driven innovation can reshape subsea operations. He noted that the center not only strengthens operational integration and performance but also reflects Boskalis’ commitment to investing in its subsea services business. The development is expected to generate more than 50 specialized onshore roles in Aberdeen over the next five years, supporting offshore teams while maintaining service quality for clients.

The facility has already undergone a comprehensive testing phase, during which ROVs were operated remotely from the ROC while deployed aboard the BOKA Northern Ocean in the North Sea. These trials simulated a range of operational scenarios to validate the reliability and effectiveness of remote subsea control systems.

Looking ahead, Boskalis plans to further expand the capabilities of the ROC by incorporating additional remote survey and inspection services. This ongoing development is expected to unlock further efficiencies and reinforce the company’s position in subsea technology and offshore innovation.
