(IN BRIEF) Bilfinger has obtained ISO 19443 certification for its Business Line Nuclear, confirming that the company meets the rigorous quality and safety requirements expected within the nuclear supply chain. The certification was granted following a detailed audit by TÜV NORD CERT covering seven sites across Germany, France, and the United Kingdom. The evaluation assessed the company’s implementation of Nuclear Safety Culture within its quality management framework and involved five auditors over 32 audit days conducted across six weeks. The certification recognizes Bilfinger’s commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance in nuclear-related services and products. ISO 19443 builds on the ISO 9001 quality management framework but introduces additional requirements specific to nuclear industry risks and safety expectations. Bilfinger Nuclear also maintains certifications under ISO 9001 and ISO 3834, reinforcing its broader commitment to quality management and technical excellence in the nuclear sector.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 11-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Bilfinger has achieved certification under ISO 19443, an international standard developed to strengthen quality management and safety oversight within the nuclear supply chain. The certification applies specifically to the company’s Business Line Nuclear and confirms that its processes meet the stringent requirements associated with delivering products and services critical to nuclear safety.

The certification process followed a comprehensive audit conducted by TÜV NORD CERT, an accredited certification body. The review took place toward the end of last year and assessed Bilfinger Nuclear operations across several European locations. Seven sites in Germany, France, and the United Kingdom were evaluated as part of the process, with five auditors carrying out the inspection over a period of six weeks. In total, the audit involved 32 days of on-site evaluation conducted in three languages.

During the audit, TÜV NORD CERT assessed the implementation of Nuclear Safety Culture within Bilfinger’s quality management system. According to the auditors, the company demonstrated a strong and consistent approach to nuclear safety across all reviewed locations. This culture is supported by a structured regional organization that includes local Nuclear Safety Culture representatives tasked with promoting awareness and accountability at every level of the business.

Dr. Eileen Langegger, Lead Auditor at TÜV NORD CERT, highlighted the high level of commitment observed during the evaluation process. She noted that employees across the organization showed strong awareness of nuclear safety principles, while leadership demonstrated clear engagement in the rollout and adoption of ISO 19443 requirements.

Caroline Sagne, President of Bilfinger’s Business Line Nuclear, said achieving the certification represents an important milestone for the company’s nuclear operations. She explained that the decision to pursue ISO 19443 certification reflects Bilfinger’s position as a major participant in the global nuclear sector and its commitment to maintaining robust quality standards. She also acknowledged the extensive effort from teams across the organization who worked for more than two years to prepare systems, processes, and documentation necessary to meet the certification criteria.

ISO 19443 is a specialized quality management standard tailored for organizations operating within the nuclear supply chain. Building upon the principles of ISO 9001, it introduces additional requirements that address the unique risks, regulatory obligations, and safety expectations associated with nuclear-related activities. The standard is particularly relevant for companies providing products or services classified as Important to Nuclear Safety, which include complex components and systems such as nuclear-grade piping and other critical infrastructure.

In addition to ISO 19443 certification, Bilfinger Nuclear already operates under other internationally recognized standards. These include ISO 9001 for quality management systems and ISO 3834, which covers quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials.

What is ISO 19443?

ISO 19443 is a quality management standard for companies in the nuclear supply chain. Based on ISO 9001, it addresses the particular demands, risks and safety expectations of the nuclear industry. The standard applies to organisations delivering products or services Important to Nuclear Safety (ITNS), such as complex nuclear and conventional piping, ensuring suppliers operate with high levels of quality, reliability, safety and regulatory compliance.

Beyond ISO 19443, Bilfinger Nuclear is also certified according to ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) and ISO 3834 (Quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials).
