(PRESS RELEASE) ABERDEEN, 29-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — BC Hydro, a leading Canadian electric utility, has partnered with global consulting and engineering firm Wood to modernize and expand the electric grid in British Columbia. This collaboration is part of BC Hydro’s efforts to meet the province’s ambitious 2030 emission reduction targets.

Under a seven-year master services agreement valued at $200 million, Wood will provide comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) services. The project will focus on upgrading power lines, substations, and transmission and distribution infrastructure, ensuring the delivery of cleaner and more reliable energy to communities throughout the province.

BC Hydro’s investment in this modernization project aligns with its January 2024 announcement of plans to sustain and expand the electricity system, which currently supplies power to 95% of British Columbia’s population, with 98% of the energy sourced from clean, renewable resources.

Justin Jackson, Senior Vice President of Process & Chemicals Americas at Wood, highlighted the longstanding partnership between the two organizations, stating, “Our deep expertise and history of successful projects in British Columbia make us a trusted partner for BC Hydro as we work together to achieve their emissions reduction goals.”

Wood’s Canadian teams, including experts based in Vancouver and Calgary, will lead the execution of this crucial project, reinforcing the company’s commitment to supporting sustainable energy initiatives in the region.
