(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS LA DÉFENSE, 3-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Arkema and Senior have agreed to deepen their strategic partnership through a new Memorandum of Understanding aimed at accelerating innovation and industrial deployment across the battery value chain. The two companies, both leaders in their respective fields, will expand their technical, commercial and application-driven collaboration to develop next-generation materials and manufacturing solutions for advanced battery systems in the rapidly growing new energy sector.

Under the terms of the MoU, Arkema and Senior will work closely on integrating Arkema’s specialty battery materials with Senior’s high-performance separator technologies and large-scale manufacturing expertise. The partnership is structured to fast-track research, validation and commercialization of innovative material systems that can enhance battery performance, safety, and production efficiency for electric mobility and energy storage applications.

Key areas of joint development will include advanced adhesion technologies, precision coating and deposition processes for electrodes, low-temperature cell assembly techniques, and emerging semi-solid battery manufacturing approaches. By combining Arkema’s deep materials science capabilities with Senior’s industrial know-how in separator design and high-volume production, the collaboration seeks to improve cell durability, reliability and manufacturability at scale.

Both companies view this partnership as a strategic step to strengthen their positions within the global battery ecosystem. By leveraging complementary expertise and a shared commitment to innovation, quality and sustainability, Arkema and Senior aim to deliver more robust and efficient solutions that support the energy transition.

Arkema brings to the collaboration its broad portfolio of advanced specialty materials tailored for battery applications. Its Kynar® PVDF polymers are widely used in lithium-ion batteries for their exceptional chemical resistance, thermal stability and mechanical performance, while its Incellion™ acrylic-based solutions are designed to enhance electrode adhesion and overall cell efficiency. These materials play a critical role in improving battery safety, longevity and energy density, supporting the shift toward electrification and renewable energy storage.

Senior, for its part, is a leading global supplier of high-performance separator films for lithium-ion batteries, serving electric vehicle manufacturers, consumer electronics companies and energy storage developers. With extensive R&D capabilities and industrial production facilities across China, Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States, Senior is a key player in translating next-generation battery innovations from laboratory to large-scale manufacturing.

Armand Ajdari, Chief Technology Officer of Arkema, said that the collaboration reflects both companies’ ambition to push the boundaries of battery materials innovation. He emphasized that integrating Arkema’s materials expertise with Senior’s industrial and application capabilities will help deliver advanced solutions that meet the evolving needs of the global battery market.

Steven Zhang, Chief Technology Officer of Senior, described the partnership as strategically important for advancing next-generation battery performance. He noted that closer cooperation with Arkema will strengthen Senior’s ability to industrialize cutting-edge material solutions and provide customers with reliable, high-performance technologies across the battery value chain.

Arkema and Senior expect that their expanded collaboration will drive long-term innovation, reinforce their technical leadership, and contribute to the broader adoption of high-performance, safer and more sustainable battery solutions worldwide.
