ANDRITZ Secures Order from Sioen Technical Felts for Advanced Needlepunch Line

(IN BRIEF) ANDRITZ has been contracted by Sioen Technical Felts to supply a needlepunch line for their Liège, Belgium plant, allowing the production of heavy fabrics in a single step. This will enhance the quality by reducing delamination risks and increasing productivity. The line, equipped with the flexible ANDRITZ DF-4 needleloom and ProWin™ fabric weight profiling technology, is set to be operational by Q1 2025. Sioen Technical Felts is part of Sioen Industries, a global leader in technical textiles and protective clothing, known for its innovation since 1960.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 22-Jun-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — International technology group ANDRITZ has been commissioned by Sioen Technical Felts to provide a comprehensive needlepunch line for their production facility in Liège, Belgium. This new installation will enable Sioen to manufacture heavy fabrics in a streamlined, single-step process.

The Liège plant of Sioen Technical Felts specializes in producing technical fabrics primarily used in industrial applications such as cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining, acoustics, and filtration. The advanced equipment from ANDRITZ will allow Sioen to produce fabrics exceeding 3,500 gsm in a single step, utilizing various fiber types including recycled PET, OxPan, and bicomponents. Traditionally, achieving such fabric weight would require two or three layers to be needled offline in additional steps.

This innovative single-step process enhances the final product quality by reducing the risk of delamination, where layers might separate during use. It also boosts productivity by minimizing the need for additional fabric handling.

The ANDRITZ DF-4 needleloom, capable of operating in both double and single stroke modes, provides Sioen with significant flexibility to handle fabrics with varied mechanical properties. Operators can easily switch between modes using a remote-control touch screen. Additionally, the line will feature ANDRITZ’s state-of-the-art fabric weight profiling technology, ProWin™, ensuring optimal weight consistency across the fabric.

The new needlepunch line is expected to be operational by Q1 2025.

Sioen Technical Felts is a subsidiary of Sioen Industries, a global leader in technical textiles and protective clothing headquartered in Ardooie, Belgium. Since its establishment in 1960 as a family business, Sioen Industries has grown through continuous innovation, cementing its position at the forefront of the industry.
