(IN BRIEF) ANDRITZ is investing a higher double-digit million euro amount by 2028 to expand and modernise its turbo generator production facilities in Linz and Weiz, responding to rising global energy demand and the growing importance of grid stability. The expansion will create around 350 skilled jobs and enhance manufacturing capacity for air-cooled and hydrogen-cooled turbo generators, with Linz focusing on assembly and testing and Weiz on component and generator production. Building on decades of expertise in power generation technology, the investment strengthens Austria’s role as a hub for advanced energy equipment and positions ANDRITZ to support the transition toward more flexible, decentralised and low-carbon power systems worldwide.

(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 30-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — ANDRITZ is expanding its manufacturing footprint in Austria in response to rising global demand for turbo generators, committing a higher double-digit million euro investment by 2028 to grow and modernise production at its sites in Linz and Weiz. The expansion will create around 350 additional skilled jobs over the coming years and reinforces the company’s long-term strategy to support decentralised power generation and grid stability amid increasing worldwide energy demand.

Turbo generators play a critical role as a bridging technology within modern energy systems, supporting flexible electricity generation and stabilising power grids during periods of fluctuating supply and demand. ANDRITZ has produced turbo generators in Weiz, Styria for more than 70 years, while its Linz site has nearly eight decades of experience in hydropower technology, particularly in turbine manufacturing and hydraulic steel structures. By extending turbo generator production to Linz, the company is significantly increasing its capacity to serve global markets.

At the Linz facility, ANDRITZ will expand and modernise production space by approximately 3,700 square metres. The site will specialise in the assembly and testing of hydrogen-cooled turbo generators. Its direct access to the Danube River enables efficient and environmentally friendly transport of equipment weighing up to 300 tonnes, providing a logistical advantage for large-scale energy infrastructure projects. In parallel, the Weiz site will see the construction of new production halls and generator manufacturing facilities, scheduled for completion by 2027. Future operations there will focus on air-cooled turbo generators as well as key components for hydrogen-cooled units, including rotors and stators.

The investment will generate substantial employment opportunities across both locations. ANDRITZ is immediately recruiting mechanical engineering technicians, electrical engineering technicians, mechatronics specialists, welders, manufacturing technicians, and other skilled professionals. While Linz will primarily strengthen its manufacturing workforce, Weiz will also expand roles in engineering and project management to support increasingly complex customer projects.

The expansion underscores ANDRITZ’s commitment to Austria as an industrial base and to the future of sustainable energy systems. Turbo generators produced by the company are already designed to be compatible with hydrogen-ready turbines, supporting the transition toward low-carbon power generation. While many installations currently operate on gas, this design flexibility positions ANDRITZ technology to play a growing role in the shift to low-CO₂ energy solutions.

Market demand for turbo generators is currently strongest in the United States and the Middle East, with Europe expected to follow. Through its targeted investments in Linz and Weiz, ANDRITZ aims to strengthen its position as a global technology provider while contributing to the stability, flexibility, and resilience of modern power systems.
