AF Gruppen Subsidiary LAB Entreprenør to Complete Final Phase of Hatleberg Student Housing Renovation Project

LAB Entreprenør has entered into an agreement with Sammen, the Student Welfare Organisation of Vestland, for the refurbishment of two residential blocks at Hatleberg in Bergen.

(IN BRIEF) LAB Entreprenør, part of AF Gruppen, has secured a NOK 212 million contract with Sammen, the Student Welfare Organisation of Vestland, to refurbish two student housing buildings at the Hatleberg student village in Bergen. The project involves upgrading the eight-storey DE Block and the four-storey C Block, which together will provide 240 student rooms as well as communal spaces and technical facilities once completed. The contract represents the final phase of a larger renovation programme covering all residential buildings at Hatleberg. LAB Entreprenør previously completed the F Block in 2025 and is currently renovating the AB Block, scheduled for completion in summer 2026. Construction on the final phase will begin in the second quarter of 2026 and is expected to conclude in the second quarter of 2027, helping modernize student housing while supporting sustainability through refurbishment rather than new construction.

(PRESS RELEASE) OSLO, 12-Mar-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — LAB Entreprenør, a subsidiary of AF Gruppen, has signed a contract with Sammen – the Student Welfare Organisation of Vestland to carry out the refurbishment of two student housing buildings at the Hatleberg student village in Bergen, Norway. The agreement forms part of the final phase of a broader redevelopment programme aimed at upgrading the entire residential complex.

The project includes the renovation of two residential blocks: the eight-storey DE Block and the four-storey C Block. When completed, the upgraded CDE building complex will provide 240 student rooms, in addition to communal facilities and a rooftop ventilation plant room designed to support the building’s technical infrastructure. The contract is valued at NOK 212 million excluding VAT.

Hatleberg student housing currently consists of around 540 student rooms distributed across the AB, CDE and F Blocks. The newly announced refurbishment project represents the third and final phase of the overall modernization programme for the site.

LAB Entreprenør has already been involved in earlier phases of the redevelopment. The F Block was completed and handed over during the summer of 2025, while refurbishment work on the AB Block is currently in progress and expected to be completed in summer 2026. The new contract will finalize the renovation of all residential buildings within the Hatleberg complex.

Gard Kvalheim, Managing Director of LAB Entreprenør, expressed appreciation for being selected to continue the collaboration with Sammen on student housing improvements in Bergen. He emphasized that projects focusing on refurbishing existing buildings contribute to both urban renewal and environmental sustainability. According to Kvalheim, preserving and upgrading existing structures rather than demolishing and constructing new buildings is one of the most effective ways for the construction sector to reduce emissions.

Construction work on the C and DE Blocks is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026, with the project scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2027.

Once finished, the upgraded facilities will provide modern student accommodation while supporting the long-term sustainability of the Hatleberg campus housing area.
