(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 22-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — A transformative initiative is underway at the Port of Barry as Associated British Ports (ABP) and px Group unveil plans for a new Clean Growth Hub. The collaboration aims to convert over 100 acres of port land into a cutting-edge hub for low-carbon industries, marking a significant milestone in South Wales’ green energy transition.

This project, building on the successful partnership at Saltend Chemicals Park, is designed to attract companies specializing in rare earth processing, battery materials manufacturing, green energy, and carbon capture technologies. ABP and px Group envision the hub as a center for sustainable industrial growth, fostering job creation and economic prosperity in the region.

The Port of Barry already features a 5 MW solar array and has potential for further renewable energy expansion, including wind power. ABP is also exploring low-carbon hydrogen production in collaboration with Hynamics, part of the EDF Group.

Henrik L. Pedersen, CEO of ABP, highlighted the importance of ports in the UK’s green energy transition, expressing excitement about expanding the partnership with px Group to drive clean growth. Geoff Holmes, CEO of px Group, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing their commitment to developing the Port of Barry into a world-class location for low-carbon industries.

The Clean Growth Hub at Port of Barry aligns with ABP’s broader ‘Future Ports: Wales Vision,’ positioning South Wales’ ports as key players in the global shift towards decarbonization and sustainable industrial practices.
