A six-metre-high puppet of Lady Godiva to stride across the University of Warwick campus to mark the opening of the International Federation for Theatre Research World congress

Coventry, UK, 25-7-2014 — /EuropaWire/ — A six-metre-high puppet of Lady Godiva will be striding across the University of Warwick campus next week to mark the opening of the International Federation for Theatre Research (IFTR) World congress.

Coventry-based Imagineer Productions are bringing their huge puppet to campus in a variation of Godiva’s Odyssey. During the opening ceremony for the congress on Monday 28 July, Lady Godiva will awake on the Warwick campus and will make her way along the main University Road, guiding all delegates to Warwick Arts Centre.

The congress, which runs from 28 July until 1 August, is being hosted at the University of Warwick for the first time and a whole host of social and cultural events have been planned for the expected 900 delegates, coming from some 68 different nations.

The opening ceremony will be followed by a performance of Broken by the Leamington-Spa based theatre company Motionhouse. Broken will take place in the Butterworth Hall at Warwick Arts Centre, with live streaming to big screens outside on campus, and also in Coventry, Woolwich and Swindon city centres.

Members of the public are invited to join the procession of Imagineer’s Lady Godiva and join those watching the live stream of ‘Broken’. On Thursday 31 July, members of the public can also visit the Performing Arts Ephemera Fair in the Helen Martin Studio from 10am until 6pm. Many specialist stallholders will be there and a vast array of theatre books, playbills, posters, prints and photographs.
