Lemminkäinen and Skanska equaly owned consortium Freeway to build S-ryhmän logistiikkakeskukset Oy’s logistics centre for daily consumer goods

LEMMINKÄINEN AND SKANSKA HAVE SIGNED THE CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT FOR THE FIRST PHASE OF THE S GROUP’S LOGISTICS CENTRE

22-8-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — The consortium formed by Lemminkäinen and Skanska, Freeway, has signed a contract with the S Group on the construction of the first phase of the new logistics centre for daily consumer goods. Construction work began in June and should be completed in June 2016. Lemminkäinen and Skanska have equal shares in the consortium. The value of the first phase of the construction contract is EUR 97.8 million, of which Lemminkäinen’s share is EUR 48.9 million.

The contract covers the technical building and construction work of the first phase of the logistics centre as well as the technical building and construction work of the ancillary, maintenance and gate buildings, in total approximately 77,000 square metres. In addition, yard work related to the aforementioned work is included in the contract.

The logistics centre located in Bastukärr, Sipoo, in southern Finland will have a gross surface area of around 189,000 square metres and a capacity of around 3,400,000 cubic metres. The logistics centre features energy-efficient engineering and will apply for BREEAM certification. Geothermal heating will be used to produce heating and cooling energy for the property. The new logistics centre will be fully inaugurated in 2018.

In June 2013, Freeway, the consortium between Lemminkäinen and Skanska, signed a framework agreement with S-ryhmän logistiikkakeskukset Oy (S Group’s logistics centres) for the construction of a new logistics centre to be implemented under a project management contract. The project is being carried out in five overlapping phases. The construction contracts will be made separately for each phase of the project.
