(PRESS RELEASE) BAD HOMBURG, 19-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Fresenius and SAP have announced plans to enter into a strategic partnership aimed at accelerating innovation in digital healthcare delivery and strengthening the foundations of a sovereign, interoperable, and AI-enabled healthcare system. The collaboration brings together Fresenius’ global healthcare expertise with SAP’s advanced digital and AI technologies to establish a secure, data-driven ecosystem designed to support hospitals and medical facilities worldwide.

The planned partnership focuses on building a scalable digital backbone for healthcare that meets stringent requirements for data sovereignty, security, and regulatory compliance. By combining clinical know-how with enterprise-grade digital platforms, Fresenius and SAP intend to enable the responsible use of health data and the secure deployment of AI across healthcare operations, supporting improved outcomes and operational efficiency across the entire care continuum.

At the core of the initiative is the joint development of an individual, modular healthcare platform that enables connected and data-driven processes. The platform will be built on established SAP technologies, including SAP Business Suite, SAP Business Data Cloud, SAP Business Technology Platform, and SAP Business AI. These technologies will provide a unified, compliant, and expandable foundation for secure data exchange, controlled AI model operation, and interoperable system integration.

A central element of the collaboration is the ambition to create a sovereign European healthcare solution that supports modern hospital information systems in line with SAP’s AnyEMR strategy. Open industry standards such as HL7 FHIR will be used to enable seamless integration between hospital information systems, electronic medical records, and other clinical applications, helping healthcare providers modernize their digital infrastructures while maintaining control over sensitive data.

The partnership also includes plans for a significant medium-term investment in the mid three-digit million euro range to advance digital and AI-supported healthcare solutions across Germany and Europe. Implementation will be supported through multiple forms of collaboration, including joint investments in startups and scaleups, co-development of new technologies, and coordinated governance structures to ensure alignment between both organizations.

Through this strategic partnership, Fresenius and SAP aim to set new benchmarks for digital sovereignty, security, and innovation in healthcare, while enabling clinicians and hospital teams to integrate AI and data-driven processes into everyday practice and focus more fully on patient care.
