(PRESS RELEASE) LEINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN/ NEU-ULM, 17-Dec-2025 —/EuropaWire/ — Daimler Buses has completed the handover of five new Mercedes-Benz eCitaro buses to Omnibus Weidachstein GmbH & Co. KG, marking an important milestone for the Bavarian, family-run transport company as it begins the transition of its fleet to locally CO₂-free electric mobility. The official vehicle handover took place on 16 December 2025 at the Daimler Buses production facility in Neu-Ulm during a ceremonial event attended by company representatives and local officials.

The vehicles were presented by Marijo Sapina, Head of Sales for Private Customers at Daimler Buses, to Dr. Sandra Bayerle-Schnarrenberger, owner of Omnibus Weidachstein GmbH & Co. KG, and her son Kilian Benedikt Bayerle. Eva Treu, District Administrator of Neu-Ulm, was also present. Alongside the delivery of the new buses, the event recognized several drivers from the family business for 25 years of dedicated service, underscoring the long-standing heritage of the company, which has been family-owned for more than seventy years.

The five battery-electric eCitaro buses will be deployed on scheduled services throughout the Neu-Ulm district, replacing existing diesel vehicles and supporting the company’s sustainability goals. For Omnibus Weidachstein, the move to electric buses represents a strategic step toward future-proofing operations while contributing to cleaner local transport. Dr. Bayerle-Schnarrenberger highlighted the importance of the transition for both public mobility in the region and the long-term stability of the business, noting that public funding from the federal government and the Free State of Bavaria made the investment possible.

From Daimler Buses’ perspective, the delivery demonstrates its commitment to supporting transport operators of all sizes on their journey toward e-mobility. Marijo Sapina emphasized that tailored eBus solutions, holistic eMobility concepts, and dedicated Omniplus service offerings enable smaller, regional companies to confidently adopt electric buses alongside larger public transport providers.

The new eCitaro buses combine locally emission-free operation with a high level of safety, range, and passenger comfort. Each vehicle can accommodate up to 90 passengers and is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety systems, including Frontguard Assist, Sideguard Assist 2, Preventive Brake Assist 2 with enhanced pedestrian and cyclist detection, and an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System. Additional features such as a reversing camera with cleaning function, LED lighting throughout, driver protection doors, tyre pressure monitoring, Traffic Sign Assist, roll and pitch control, and Attention Assist further enhance operational safety.

Inside the buses, passengers benefit from a modern and accessible interior. Climate comfort is provided by the EvoThermatik roof-mounted air conditioning system with heat pump and energy-saving Thermatronic function, while active antiviral filters contribute to improved air quality. The interior includes 36 seats in Mercedes-Benz Inter Star Eco design with green upholstery, contrasting yellow-green handrails, a wheelchair-accessible area with mother-and-child seating, a manually operated folding ramp at the rear door, and an 18.5-inch TFT monitor for onboard information and infotainment.

To support long-term reliability, the eCitaro buses are equipped as standard with the Bus Data Center interface for Omniplus On digital connectivity services. Omnibus Weidachstein has also concluded an Omniplus eService Contract ePremium, covering maintenance, repairs, wear-and-tear components, and high-voltage system work, as well as access to Omniplus 24-hour service across Europe, ensuring high vehicle availability and predictable operating costs.
