STARK Group accelerates climate action with new solar park and validated science-based targets

(IN BRIEF) STARK Group has inaugurated a 122-hectare solar park in Eastern Jutland in partnership with Mind Energy, generating 132,000 MWh annually to supply around half of its electricity needs in Denmark. The initiative builds on STARK Group’s climate commitments, which were recently validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, including a 45% reduction in direct emissions and a 25% reduction in value chain emissions by 2030, with net zero targeted for 2050. Senior Director Louise Askær-Hune highlighted the importance of additionality, noting that the project adds new renewable energy capacity rather than sourcing existing supply. The investment underscores STARK Group’s ambition to operate entirely on renewable electricity by 2030 across all markets and positions the Group as a climate leader in the European building materials sector.

(PRESS RELEASE) FREDERIKSBERG, 8-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — STARK Group has marked a major milestone in its climate strategy with the opening of a new 122-hectare solar park developed in partnership with Mind Energy. The facility will supply renewable electricity equivalent to roughly 50% of the Group’s annual energy needs in Denmark, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels and directly contributing to its recently validated science-based climate targets.

The launch of the solar park follows STARK Group’s climate targets being formally approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). These commitments set a 45% reduction in direct emissions (scope 1 and 2) and a 25% reduction in value chain emissions (scope 3) by 2030, with a long-term goal of achieving net zero by 2050.

“Our climate plan is ambitious but necessary,” said Louise Askær-Hune, Senior Director Group Sustainability & ESG. “This project is a tangible example of how we are moving from commitments to action. By building new renewable capacity through our agreement with Mind Energy and Energi Danmark, we are not just sourcing green power – we are actively increasing the share of clean energy available in the grid.”

The solar park is part of a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (cPPA) signed in 2023, ensuring a stable supply of renewable electricity to STARK Group’s operations in Denmark. With an expected output of 132,000 MWh annually, the park underlines the company’s commitment to additionality – the principle of adding new renewable capacity rather than relying on existing sources.
