Schaeffler brings EMR4 e-axle, hybrid solutions, and software-defined vehicle innovations to IAA MOBILITY 2025

(IN BRIEF) Schaeffler will present its expanded portfolio at IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich, focusing on electrified powertrains, chassis systems, and software-defined vehicles. Highlights include the EMR4 electric axle drive, modular hybrid solutions, advanced thermal management, and steer-by-wire technologies featuring force-feedback capability. The company will also unveil its scalable E/E platform with Master and Zone Controllers, designed to simplify vehicle architectures and ensure functional safety. Following its acquisition of Vitesco Technologies, Schaeffler is positioning itself as a key global partner in decarbonized, automated, and connected mobility.

(PRESS RELEASE) HERZOGENAURACH, 4-Sep-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Schaeffler will showcase its broadened portfolio of technologies at IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich from September 8 to 12, marking its first major trade fair presence since the successful acquisition of Vitesco Technologies. Under the banner “The Motion Technology Company,” Schaeffler will highlight its leadership in three strategic areas: electrified powertrains, intelligent chassis and body systems, and solutions for software-defined vehicles.

“Our goal is clear: to shape the future of mobility with our customers – decarbonized, automated, and connected,” said Matthias Zink, CEO Powertrain & Chassis at Schaeffler AG. “We are ideally placed to serve as a key partner in the industry’s transformation in Germany, across Europe, and worldwide.” Thomas Stierle, CEO E-Mobility at Schaeffler AG, added: “Innovation, agility, execution strength, and customer focus are decisive for our journey. At this year’s IAA MOBILITY, we invite visitors to see first-hand how Schaeffler is advancing its position as the leading Motion Technology Company.”

Electrified Powertrain – EMR4 and hybrid expertise
Among the highlights is the EMR4 (Electronics Motor Reducer, 4th generation), an integrated electric axle drive that combines motor, transmission, and power electronics into a compact, modular unit. Its configurable design allows manufacturers to adapt performance characteristics to diverse vehicle platforms, with standardized interfaces simplifying integration. A rare-earth-free option is also available. Complementing this, Schaeffler’s modular thermal management systems support efficiency improvements and are compatible with natural refrigerants such as CO₂ and propane.

In addition to fully electric systems, Schaeffler continues to invest in hybrid topologies, offering a complete range of solutions from components to full systems. At IAA, it will showcase a hybrid transmission integrating hydraulics, power electronics, and clutch systems. A hybrid-specific combustion engine demonstrator, with noise and vibration-optimized dampers and electromechanical camshaft phasing, will also be on display, along with the Flex Fuel Sensor for precise ethanol measurement.

Chassis and steer-by-wire technologies
Schaeffler is advancing automated driving technologies through intelligent chassis solutions. Its Hand Wheel Actuator combines a magnetorheological brake with an optimized BLDC motor to deliver authentic force-feedback steering while reducing reliance on copper and rare earths. The innovation paves the way for advanced steer-by-wire applications and future control concepts, such as joystick steering, while meeting rising demands for comfort and safety.

Software-defined vehicle platforms
As the industry moves toward centralized electronics and zonal architectures, Schaeffler is presenting a scalable E/E platform designed around Master Control Units (MCUs) and Zone Controller Units (ZCUs). These systems consolidate vehicle functions, reduce wiring complexity, and support secure communication while achieving the highest safety standard (ASIL-D). The platform manages energy, thermal control, charging, and by-wire systems, ensuring functional safety and efficiency in future vehicle designs.

IAA press conference
On Monday, September 8, 2025, Schaeffler will host a press conference from 10:20 to 10:40 a.m. (CEST) at booth B40 in Hall B3 and via livestream, with Klaus Rosenfeld, CEO of Schaeffler AG, alongside Matthias Zink and Thomas Stierle.
