(PRESS RELEASE) BRISTOL, 12-Aug-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The University of Bristol is inviting residents of Withywood, Hartcliffe, and nearby communities who are passionate about animals to attend a free animal careers advice drop-in session this Wednesday, 13 August, from 2 to 4 pm at its Hartcliffe Micro-campus in the Gatehouse Centre. The event welcomes school leavers, those seeking a career change, and individuals re-entering the workforce who are curious about careers in animal care, veterinary services, and related industries. Visitors can enjoy interactive activities using realistic models to get a feel for the types of tasks involved in working with animals, as well as meet professionals who can share their expertise and guidance.

This initiative is part of a two-year collaboration between the University of Bristol Veterinary School, Bristol Animal Rescue Centre (Bristol A.R.C.), Langford Vets, and the Bristol Paws Project. The partnership aims to support pet owners in Hartcliffe by offering community sessions that provide valuable pet care advice and resources. Local pet owners can also attend regular themed drop-ins at the micro-campus to enjoy refreshments, discuss pet health and behaviour, and even collect free pet food. Upcoming sessions will take place on 17 September, 15 October, 12 November, and 10 December, covering topics such as nutrition, preventative healthcare, training, and grooming.

Professor Sheena Warman, Deputy Head of the Bristol Veterinary School, encouraged community members to get involved, stating: “If you’ve ever dreamed of working with animals – whether you’re just starting out or thinking about a change – this is your chance to explore the possibilities. Come along, get hands-on experience, and speak to real professionals to help you take the next step into a rewarding career in animal care.”

The University of Bristol’s Veterinary School, based at the Langford Campus, offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including the MSc in Global Wildlife Health and Conservation. Its facilities include a small animal hospital, farm and equine practices, diagnostic laboratories, and a working dairy farm, providing students with extensive practical learning opportunities.

Bristol A.R.C., the city’s oldest animal welfare charity, has been serving the community for over 137 years, ensuring vulnerable animals receive the care and compassion they deserve. Langford Vets, a University of Bristol-owned not-for-profit veterinary group, offers high-quality specialist care, while the Bristol Paws Project—founded by Bristol veterinary students—works to reduce financial barriers to pet ownership and promote the human-animal bond.
