European Commission picks Eviden to power AtLaS HLTP platform and deploy BARTENDER for multilingual defence NLP

(IN BRIEF) Eviden has been selected by the European Commission to build and run the integration platform for the AtLaS consortium’s HLTP Challenge project, funded by the European Defence Fund. The company will also deploy BARTENDER, its multilingual natural language processing solution. AtLaS targets next‑generation Human Language Technology for defence, aiming to manage low-quality, multilingual and noisy data using AI and NLP, denoising techniques and resilient system design. The project will test European partners’ automatic language processing tools under real operational constraints such as varied dialects and degraded environments, with the aim of enhancing defence communications, intelligence gathering and a shared European language tech library. Bernard Payer of Eviden highlighted HLTP’s role in threat identification and information exploitation.

(PRESS RELEASE) PARIS, 23-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Eviden, the Atos Group brand for advanced computing, cybersecurity products, mission‑critical systems and vision AI, has been chosen by the European Commission to deliver the technical backbone for the HLTP Challenge. Acting as the integration hub for the nine organisations that make up the AtLaS consortium, Eviden will host and connect their applications—and contribute its own breakthrough human language processing software, BARTENDER, capable of handling hundreds of languages. The project is one of four selected and is financed under the European Defence Fund.

AtLaS is dedicated to pushing Human Language Technology (HLT) for defence forward by marrying AI and Natural Language Processing to cope with multilingual, low-quality and noisy data streams. Goals include building resilient, noise‑tolerant systems, advancing training through techniques such as denoising, and creating adaptable solutions that can feed a European library of language technologies—ultimately improving defence communications and intelligence gathering.

“We are proud to have been selected by the European Commission on the HLTP challenge and to leverage our expertise in Systems Integration and Human Language Processing within a consortium of industrial companies. This is all the more important as HLTP is an essential tool for identifying threats and gathering information that can be exploited for defense purposes.”
Bernard Payer, Global Head of Mission-Critical Systems, Eviden, Atos Group.

The AtLaS initiative will benchmark automatic language processing (ALP) solutions from European partners against real operational constraints: multiple dialects and languages, degraded audio, battlefield conditions, and challenging communications environments. Eviden’s modular platform approach ensures each component—from radar-like detection of signals in noise to command-and-control style orchestration—can be integrated seamlessly or delivered turnkey.

The AtLaS project is funded by the European Union.
