Rheinmetall Secures €26 Million Contract to Supply High-Performance CWA2000 Pumps for Electric Vehicles and Power Plants

(IN BRIEF) Rheinmetall has secured a €26 million order for its CWA2000 high-voltage coolant pump from a well-known Asian engine manufacturer. The pumps will be used in 800V fuel cell vehicles and stationary power plants, marking a significant step in Rheinmetall’s strategy to expand its presence in the Asian electric vehicle market and the green power generation sector. The CWA2000, chosen for its performance, compact size, and wear-free design, will begin production at Rheinmetall’s Hartha plant in 2027. The 800V technology it supports offers advantages like improved efficiency, reduced electrical losses, and space-saving capabilities, making it ideal for future electric vehicle power systems.

(PRESS RELEASE) DÜSSELDORF, 10-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — Rheinmetall has successfully secured a €26 million order for its CWA2000 high-voltage coolant pump from a prominent Asian engine manufacturer. This order, marking a significant milestone in the company’s expansion, is for a batch of pumps to be used in an 800V fuel cell architecture for small vans, trucks, and stationary power plants. After two years of collaboration and development, Rheinmetall has established a strong partnership with the customer, and this order will further cement its position in the rapidly growing Asian market for electric vehicle power systems and green power generation.

The CWA2000 pump was selected due to its compact size, high performance, and durability. Designed as a wet-running pump with optimized bearings for cooling water applications, it offers the benefit of being nearly wear-free, making it an ideal component for the energy-efficient systems in fuel cell vehicles. Production of the pumps will begin in 2027 at Rheinmetall’s Hartha plant, with production continuing through 2031. The current contract only covers the pumps, with future collaborations expected to focus on developing next-generation high-voltage coolant pumps.

The 800V technology that the CWA2000 supports offers significant advantages, including increased efficiency and reduced electrical losses, allowing for thinner cables and lighter components. This technology also enhances the cooling system, making it more compact and efficient while reducing the need for valuable materials like copper.

Rheinmetall’s Power Systems division continues to play a vital role in delivering cutting-edge solutions for the automotive and energy industries, advancing sustainable technologies for a greener future.
