(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 22-Nov-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has announced a strategic collaboration with RWE, a global leader in renewable energy, to implement HPE Private Cloud AI. This advanced AI-driven solution will enhance RWE’s weather modeling capabilities, improve forecast accuracy, and optimize energy resource management, bolstering its leadership in the renewable energy sector.

RWE’s Artificial Intelligence Research Laboratory will harness HPE Private Cloud AI, part of the NVIDIA AI Computing by HPE portfolio, to refine and deploy AI-driven weather models. Accurate weather predictions are critical to balancing energy supply and demand, especially as RWE expands its renewable energy generation through onshore and offshore wind, solar, and battery projects under its Growing Green strategy.

“AI plays a pivotal role in achieving our sustainability goals and optimizing processes across our operations,” said Simon Tarplee, Head of Commercial AI at RWE Supply & Trading. “With HPE Private Cloud AI, we’ll have a powerful, turnkey solution that allows us to improve forecast precision and efficiently manage energy resources globally. Our goal is to have a production training-capable system operational by the end of 2024.”

HPE Private Cloud AI provides RWE with an on-premise, highly scalable infrastructure designed to handle massive datasets and facilitate rapid experimentation and deployment of AI models. The platform integrates seamlessly with HPE GreenLake, offering robust tools for managing infrastructure, automating workflows, and tracking sustainability metrics.

“The ability to fine-tune AI-driven weather models gives RWE a significant edge in maximizing the efficiency of its renewable energy portfolio,” said Fidelma Russo, EVP & GM, Hybrid Cloud, and CTO at HPE. “Our solution enables RWE to accelerate their AI initiatives, driving both innovation and operational excellence.”

The collaboration comes as RWE advances its decarbonization efforts in line with the 1.5-degree climate pathway, with a commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. By leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies, RWE aims to unlock new efficiencies across its global operations and further solidify its position as a renewable energy leader.

HPE Private Cloud AI, co-developed with NVIDIA, provides RWE with a streamlined platform capable of deploying AI infrastructure in just three clicks. This efficiency allows RWE’s researchers to focus on developing transformative models that address critical challenges in renewable energy management and accelerate the adoption of sustainable practices.

This partnership underscores the role of advanced AI solutions in driving the energy transition and highlights how innovation can unlock new possibilities for a greener future.
