Ørsted Commissions 600 MW Solar and Battery Storage Facility in Arizona, Powering 65,000 Homes

(IN BRIEF) Ørsted has completed the Eleven Mile Solar Center in Arizona, featuring a 300 MW solar farm paired with a 300 MW/1200 MWh battery storage system. This facility will provide clean energy for 65,000 homes, support Meta’s planned data center, and contribute to Arizona’s growing energy demands. The project marks Ørsted’s first in Arizona and expands its global onshore renewable capacity to 5.6 GW.

(PRESS RELEASE) FREDERICIA, 11-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Ørsted has successfully commissioned its Eleven Mile Solar Center, a major renewable energy project in Pinal County near Phoenix, Arizona. The facility boasts a 300 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity paired with a 300 MW/1200 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS), collectively generating enough clean energy to power 65,000 homes while storing up to 1,200 MWh of electricity each day. This project marks Ørsted’s first venture in Arizona and serves both residential consumers and businesses, including Meta’s planned data center in Mesa.

David Hardy, Executive Vice President and CEO of Ørsted Americas, highlighted the growing importance of solar energy combined with battery storage in ensuring reliable energy supply as demand continues to rise. “We’re excited to complete our first Arizona project and add this valuable asset to our US portfolio. This facility will play a critical role in meeting the region’s increasing energy needs with reliable, clean power,” said Hardy.

Arizona Corporate Commissioner Lea Marquez Peterson emphasized the project’s significance for the state: “The Eleven Mile Solar Center represents a substantial investment in southern Arizona, supporting the state’s growing energy requirements. This project demonstrates how clean energy can help diversify our resources while ensuring reliability for the local grid.”

With the successful completion of the Eleven Mile Solar Center, Ørsted now operates 5.6 GW of onshore renewable capacity globally, further cementing its role as a leader in clean energy solutions.
