Patent Victory: NORMA Group Wins Case Against Chinese Competitor Over Innovative Hose Clamp Technology

(IN BRIEF) NORMA Group has successfully won a patent infringement case against Chinese competitor Suzhou Shengnuo Connection Technology Co. Ltd. The Supreme People’s Court in Beijing ruled that Shengnuo’s product infringed on NORMA Group’s patented worm-drive hose clamp technology, known as the TORRO® PreFix System. The court has prohibited Shengnuo from manufacturing or selling the product and ordered them to pay damages. This victory strengthens NORMA Group’s intellectual property protection and secures its global business operations, particularly in the areas of efficient hose clamp solutions.

(PRESS RELEASE) MAINTAL, 25-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — NORMA Group, a global leader in engineered joining technology, has successfully defended its patent in a legal battle against Chinese company Suzhou Shengnuo Connection Technology Co. Ltd (“Shengnuo”). In a final ruling by the Supreme People’s Court in Beijing, Shengnuo was found to have infringed on NORMA Group’s patent for a worm-drive hose clamp with a unique pre-positioning system. The court ordered Shengnuo to cease manufacturing and selling the infringing product and to pay damages to NORMA Group.

Guido Grandi, CEO of NORMA Group, emphasized the importance of protecting the company’s innovations: “Our long-standing expertise in development provides us with a strong competitive advantage. By defending our patents, we protect both our intellectual property and our business interests. This ruling is vital in securing our future as a leader in advanced joining technologies.”

The patented product in question, known as the TORRO® PreFix System, is a worm-drive hose clamp that includes two prepositioner elements to allow precise placement on a hose before final assembly. This innovative feature is particularly useful when hoses are stored or transported prior to installation or when working in tight spaces like engine compartments. Since its market debut in 2007, the PreFix system has significantly simplified and sped up assembly for NORMA Group’s customers.

Dr. Gerrit von Breitenbach, Global Head of Technology and Innovation at NORMA Group, noted, “Even though our components might appear simple, they are vital to the performance of machines and vehicles. Our commitment to developing high-quality, easy-to-install products provides significant value to our clients, especially by reducing assembly time and costs in manufacturing.”

NORMA Group produces the patented clamp in its facilities in Changzhou, China, for its Asian clients, and in Maintal, Germany, for customers in Europe and North America, delivering millions of units annually to customers worldwide.
