Hanwha Ocean’s Rotor Sail Technology Receives Certification from DNV for Hazardous Zone Installation
(IN BRIEF) DNV has awarded Hanwha Ocean Type Approval Design Certification (TADC) for its innovative rotor sail technology, marking it as the first rotor sail certified for use in hazardous zones in South Korea. The certification confirms that the rotor sail, made from composite materials, meets stringent safety and international standards, making it ready for commercial deployment. Hanwha Ocean aims to provide eco-friendly solutions for shipowners, while DNV emphasizes the importance of such innovations in enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions in the shipping sector. The TADC also allows for installation on vessels carrying hazardous cargo.
(PRESS RELEASE) BÆRUM, 25-Sep-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — DNV has officially awarded Hanwha Ocean the Type Approval Design Certification (TADC) for its cutting-edge rotor sail technology, marking the first certification of its kind for rotor sails intended for installation in hazardous zones in South Korea.
The TADC signifies that Hanwha Ocean’s rotor sail, constructed from advanced composite materials, complies with DNV’s stringent safety standards and international regulations, making it ready for implementation on commercial vessels. The certification process involved comprehensive design evaluations and assessments to ensure that the rotor sail meets rigorous operational criteria.
