7-Eleven selects Outokumpu Core 4622 grade as material for illuminated signs for 6,000 of its convenience stores in Thailand

ESPOO, 7-8-2015 — /EuropaWire/ — The combination of humid weather, air conditioning, refrigerator units and foodstuff was the decisive factor for selecting Outokumpu Core 4622 grade as material for illuminated signs for 6,000 7-Eleven convenience stores in Thailand.

Says Nopol Chuklin, Managing Director of Thailand’s RBS Group manufacturing the light box frames: “We looked for an alternative for grade 304. For the equipment RBS was supplying to 7-Eleven, it was critical that the stainless steel would offer needed corrosion resistance with good weldability. With Core 4622 meeting our requirements, and being price competitive with 304, we got a cost-effective material. Only some adjustments had to be made in the manufacturing process to accommodate.”

Based on the success of the light box production, Chuklin’s company is expanding its use of Core 4622 to other equipment, beginning with counter tops.

The Core 4622 grade is Outokumpu’s first high-chromium ferritic grade. There is no nickel in the product, which makes it a competitive alternative for the customer than standard 304 – yet it has similar corrosion resistance but better deep-drawability. Core 4622 has also low roping, which provides faster polishing with lower cost when needed. Core 4622 is suitable for demanding applications including façades, elevators, catering or automotive industry. Ease of polishing makes it ideal even for kitchenware and utensils.
