Vietnam representative delegation headed by Tran Van Tung visited National Research Nuclear University MEPHI Russia

25-7-2013 — /EuropaWire/ — On the 22nd of July a representative delegation of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam headed by Deputy Minister of Science and Technologies Tran Van Tung paid a visit to the National Research Nuclear University MEPHI. The foreign guests’ visit took place in the framework of the technical cooperation program of ROSATOM and the IAEA aimed at studies by the Vietnamese colleagues of the Russian experience in managing the nuclear power infrastructure and at development of nuclear industry personnel training programs.

At the meeting the participants discussed issues of broadening the international cooperation aimed at training and probation of Vietnam’s nuclear specialists at NRNU MEPHI and the possibility of using the university’s laboratories and simulators for the training. From the presentations made the Vietnamese colleagues became aware of the specialist training system of NRNU MEPHI, of students and university staff’s participation in international projects and research. These and many other aspects were covered by First Vice-Rector of NRNU MEPHI O.V. Nagornov and Deputy Director of INP of NRNU MEPHI P.A. Zdorovtsev.

The Vietnamese delegation was given an opportunity of making a tour of some scientific and educational divisions of NRNU MEPHI where nuclear specialists are educated. During the tour to Chair No. 2 “Automation”, Deputy Chair Head S.A. Korolev elaborated on its projects and achievements. Researcher Ye.V. Chernov presented on the specialized training laboratory “Reactor Physics, Control and Safe Operation of NPIs”. This laboratory has been acknowledged internationally. It has been used as a nuclear industry specialist training aid by several universities of Armenia, Ukraine and Belarus in frames of the technical cooperation projects with the IAEA. The Vietnamese colleagues also visited the Nanoceter of NRNU MEPHI and familiarized with its operation process and key scientific results.

The next day the delegation set off to the city of Obninsk. Currently, about 60 Vietnamese students do education courses at NRNU MEPHI’s INP. The delegation members had a meeting with students and told them about the progress in construction preparation of the first NPP in Vietnam and their employment prospects at the national nuclear facility. Deputy Minister Tran Van Tung expressed his confidence that it will be NRNU MEPHI where highly skilled specialists will be trained that will be able to work at Vietnam’s NPPs and develop the national nuclear industry.

Basing on the NRNU MEPHI visit, the Vietnamese delegation highly appraised the university’s capabilities in the field of training of skilled staff the Socialist Republic of Vietnam needs to develop nuclear power. Tran Van Tung expressed his gratitude to the NRNU MEPHI management for the opportunity of visiting Russia’s leading scientific and educational nuclear center. “I am for the first time in Russia, but I know the friendliness of the Russian colleagues; many members of the Vietnamese delegation were educated and then worked here. Your country helped us much in our hard times and now, when we start building the first nuclear power plants, Russia renders great assistance. We must learn much more from you, adopt advanced technologies and experience,” he said.
