VERBUND Green Power and Nordex Group Sign Long-Term Framework Agreement for Up to 700 MW of Wind Capacity

(IN BRIEF) VERBUND Green Power and Nordex Group have entered into a multi-year framework agreement through 2030 for the potential supply of up to 700 megawatts of onshore wind turbine capacity to support VERBUND Green Power’s wind projects across six European markets. The agreement, which may cover around half of VERBUND Green Power’s current wind development pipeline, strengthens supply chain security as projects progress toward construction. Aligned with VERBUND’s Mission V strategy to expand wind and solar generation to 25 percent of total output by 2030, the partnership supports accelerated renewable energy growth while enabling Nordex to deploy its latest turbine technology across a broad, multi-country portfolio.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID / HAMBURG, 20-Feb-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — VERBUND Green Power and Nordex Group have signed a multi-year framework agreement to support the supply of onshore wind turbines with a total potential capacity of up to 700 megawatts, reinforcing their shared commitment to accelerating renewable energy deployment across Europe. The agreement establishes a long-term cooperation running through 2030 and is designed to support VERBUND Green Power’s expanding portfolio of wind energy projects in multiple European markets.

Under the framework agreement, VERBUND Green Power, the international renewable energy subsidiary of Austria’s leading energy company VERBUND, may procure up to 105 Nordex onshore wind turbines for future developments across six core markets: Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Romania, and Albania. Based on current development plans, the capacity covered by the agreement could account for around half of VERBUND Green Power’s wind project pipeline, subject to final investment decisions, regulatory approvals, and customary commercial conditions.

The agreement was formally signed on January 16 at VERBUND Green Power’s offices in Madrid by Dietmar Reiner, Managing Director of VERBUND Green Power, and José Luis Blanco, Chief Executive Officer of Nordex Group. The framework is intended to provide supply chain visibility and flexibility as projects move from development into construction, supporting timely execution in an increasingly competitive renewable energy market.

VERBUND Group, traditionally known for its strong hydropower portfolio, is accelerating its expansion in wind and solar generation as part of its Mission V corporate strategy. Under this strategy, wind and photovoltaic generation are expected to represent 25 percent of the company’s total electricity production by 2030. With more than 1.2 gigawatts of renewable capacity already in operation across Europe, VERBUND Green Power continues to advance projects under construction while actively expanding its development pipeline.

The partnership with Nordex strengthens VERBUND Green Power’s ability to scale renewable generation efficiently across multiple markets while securing access to proven wind turbine technology. Nordex will supply its latest-generation onshore turbines, including equipment from its 7-megawatt class, supporting reliable and cost-efficient wind energy production throughout the partnership period. The agreement also builds on existing collaboration between the two companies, including recent turbine orders for projects in Romania, further expanding Nordex’s footprint in the region.
