(PRESS RELEASE) COVENTRY, 1-Apr-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — University of Warwick has announced a major expansion of its international research seed funding programme, introducing ten new and renewed joint funding initiatives with leading institutions across Asia, Europe, Africa, and North America. The move represents the university’s largest investment to date in early-stage global research collaboration.

The initiative is part of Warwick’s One World Warwick programme, which aims to strengthen its international research network and accelerate cross-border collaboration. By expanding its portfolio of seed funds, the university is creating new opportunities for academics to develop pilot projects, build partnerships, and explore innovative ideas with global impact.

The enhanced funding schemes support early-stage research activity, including feasibility studies, workshops, and collaborative initiatives. They are designed to enable researchers to establish connections quickly and develop projects that can later scale into larger international programmes.

According to Michael Scott, international collaboration is central to Warwick’s identity. He highlighted that the expansion introduces a diverse group of new partners while strengthening existing relationships across multiple regions, helping to build meaningful global research networks capable of addressing shared challenges.

The programme includes partnerships with a range of prominent universities worldwide. New or expanded collaborations involve institutions such as Washington University in St. Louis, National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, University of Toronto, and Stellenbosch University. The Monash Warwick Alliance also continues to support collaboration across research, education, and professional services.

In addition, Warwick has outlined plans to establish new joint seed funding schemes with Tsinghua University and Peking University, with a focus on interdisciplinary research areas such as sustainability, carbon neutrality, and healthcare.

Alongside these bilateral partnerships, the university continues to support broader international collaboration through initiatives such as its International Partnership Fund and the Warwick Horizon Europe Seed Fund. These programmes aim to help researchers develop proposals and partnerships for larger-scale international funding opportunities.

Collectively, the expanded funding portfolio reflects Warwick’s strategic focus on fostering interdisciplinary research, strengthening global partnerships, and accelerating innovation. By investing in early-stage collaboration, the university aims to enable high-impact research that addresses global challenges and delivers long-term benefits across multiple sectors.
