University of Liverpool–Led CERSI-PGx Launches Free eLearning Portal to Advance Pharmacogenomics in Clinical Practice

(IN BRIEF) CERSI-PGx has launched a free eLearning portal to support the adoption of pharmacogenomics in routine clinical practice. Led by the University of Liverpool in partnership with the British Pharmacological Society and Queen Mary University of London, the platform offers bite-sized, flexible training for healthcare and regulatory professionals. Funded by Innovate UK and guided by Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, the initiative aims to build confidence and capability in genomic-guided prescribing, supporting safer, more personalised and more effective use of medicines as healthcare systems move toward genome-informed care.

(PRESS RELEASE) LIVERPOOL, 28-Jan-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — The Centre of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation in Pharmacogenomics (CERSI-PGx) has launched a new eLearning portal aimed at accelerating the real-world adoption of pharmacogenomics in clinical practice. The initiative is designed to support healthcare and regulatory professionals as genomic-guided prescribing becomes an increasingly important part of modern healthcare delivery.

Led by the University of Liverpool in collaboration with the British Pharmacological Society and Queen Mary University of London, the online platform provides free, accessible and bite-sized learning modules. The content is tailored to build both confidence and practical capability, helping professionals understand how pharmacogenomic insights can be applied to optimise treatment decisions and improve patient outcomes.

The portal forms part of CERSI-PGx’s broader mission to advance education and innovation in medicines regulation and personalised therapeutics. Funded by Innovate UK and led by Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, the programme focuses on supporting the development and use of medicines that are “fit for the genome,” ensuring that advances in genomic science translate into meaningful clinical impact.

The newly launched eLearning course represents a significant step forward in equipping clinicians, prescribers and decision-makers with the knowledge needed to integrate pharmacogenomics into everyday prescribing. The modular structure allows learners to engage with content at their own pace, making it suitable for busy healthcare environments while maintaining scientific and regulatory rigor.

Dr Maria Tsakiroglou of the University of Liverpool, who led the development of the portal, highlighted the importance of timely education as genomic healthcare continues to advance within the NHS. She noted that the platform has been designed to deliver flexible, user-directed training through a variety of engaging formats, ensuring that key stakeholders are well prepared for the transition toward pharmacogenomic-guided prescribing.

By improving genomic literacy across the healthcare landscape, the CERSI-PGx eLearning portal aims to support safer, more effective and more personalised prescribing. The course is available free of charge, lowering barriers to access and encouraging widespread participation among healthcare and regulatory professionals.

Access to the CERSI-PGx course is completely free. Learners can begin in just a few steps:
