University of Dundee honoured with Research Project of the Year and the Enhanced Student Learning Awards at the Herald Higher Education Awards

DUNDEE, 03-Jul-2018 — /EuropaWire/ — We have won Research Project of the Year and the Enhanced Student Learning Awards at the Herald Higher Education Awards, held last night in Glasgow.

Professor Ghulam Nabi’s work on prostate cancer research was named Research Project of the Year, a category in which the `Hands of X’ project led by Dr Graham Pullin was also highly commended.

Our Global Health Challenge team picked up the Enhanced Student Learning Award for a project which has engaged students and external partners.

Professor Nabi’s work on prostate cancer has identified a new method offering more successful diagnosis and management of the disease. When announced in April the research was publicly welcomed by our former Rector Stephen Fry and received worldwide attention.

Hands of X is a collaboration that designs made-to-order prosthetic hands in a range of materials and colours according to the wearers’ preference. It was named the 2018 Public Engagement Project of the Year.

The Global Health Challenge brings together students from across the University to work with external organisations in improving social, cultural and physical well-being. Launched in October 2016 this annual initiative seeks to develop genuine solutions in an enterprising and entrepreneurial way, tackling the problem of health equality under a range of themes.

The awards were held at the Doubletree by Hilton hotel in Glasgow and hosted by another of our former Rectors, Fred MacAulay.
