(PRESS RELEASE) MUNICH, 27-Aug-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is offering a wide range of vocational training opportunities, demonstrating that impactful careers in science and technology are possible without a traditional university degree. This year, 30 new apprentices are beginning their training at TUM, joining a workforce that is essential to the university’s world-class research and teaching operations.

From IT system electronics and chemical laboratory assistants to specialized fields like glass apparatus engineering and even beer brewing, TUM provides hands-on training in a variety of professions. These roles are integral to the university’s success, ensuring that its infrastructure and laboratories operate smoothly.

The TUM Vocational Training Center (AuTUM) plays a key role in this initiative. Led by Monika Partsch-Schwaiger, who herself trained at TUM, the center supports over 100 trainees. Apprentices at TUM have the unique opportunity to engage directly in scientific research from the start, contributing to experiments and gaining valuable practical experience.

TUM President Prof. Thomas F. Hofmann highlights the critical role of these apprentices, emphasizing the collaborative environment where researchers and skilled technicians work side by side. Many apprentices go on to pursue further studies, while others choose to continue their careers at TUM, benefiting from the job security and opportunities offered by the public sector.

For those interested in starting vocational training at TUM next year, the application deadline is at the end of October. More information is available on the AuTUM website.
