Telefónica Tech Strengthens Cybersecurity Leadership with Cross-Industry Digital Identity Platform for Insurers

(IN BRIEF) Telefónica Tech is collaborating with TIREA to develop a unified digital identity platform for Spain’s insurance sector, enabling brokers, agents and other partners to access multiple insurers’ digital services through a single secure identity. The initiative aims to reduce fragmentation, strengthen interoperability and enhance cybersecurity and regulatory compliance across the industry. TIREA contributes sector expertise to ensure alignment with market standards, while Telefónica Tech provides advanced identity and security capabilities. The project, to be presented at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, positions Telefónica Tech as a leading operator in managing complex digital identities in highly regulated, multi-sector environments.

(PRESS RELEASE) MADRID, 13-Feb-2026 — /EuropaWire/ — Telefónica Tech UK&I is advancing its cybersecurity and digital identity capabilities in Spain’s insurance market through a new collaboration with TIREA. Together, the two organisations are designing a platform that will allow insurance sector partners to operate with a single digital identity, enabling unified and secure access to the digital services of multiple insurance companies.

The initiative aims to simplify and strengthen identity management for brokers, agents, experts and other external collaborators who currently navigate multiple authentication systems across different insurers. By introducing a shared model, the future platform seeks to eliminate fragmentation and create a more interoperable, secure and efficient digital environment.

TIREA is contributing its sector-specific expertise and facilitating coordination across the insurance ecosystem to ensure alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Its role includes helping to define a common framework that supports interoperability and the evolution of shared services, ensuring that the platform reflects the operational realities of the market.

The proposed solution will incorporate best practices in cybersecurity, governance and continuous operational management. Its objective is to enhance trust among sector participants, reinforce regulatory compliance and provide an additional layer of protection for authentication processes. By standardising identity management, the platform is designed to deliver secure, traceable access to digital services regardless of the insurer involved.

Inmaculada César, Director of Media and Technology at TIREA, highlighted the project’s role in strengthening coherence within the insurance ecosystem. She emphasised that TIREA’s sector knowledge is helping guide the development of a harmonised digital identity model aligned with the practical needs of insurers and their partners.

David Prieto, Head of Identity and Security at Telefónica Tech, underscored the strategic importance of robust digital identity management, describing it as the gateway to all digital services within an organisation. He noted that the project reinforces Telefónica Tech’s position as a leading operator in the management and operation of complex digital identities across multi-sector and highly regulated environments, while enabling the insurance industry to adopt a common, secure and regulated identity framework.

The project will be presented during the session “Human and Non-Human Identity in the Age of AI” on 2 March at the Ágora stage at Telefónica’s stand during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The event will showcase how unified identity models can address growing security challenges in increasingly digital and AI-driven ecosystems.
