(IN BRIEF) The EBRD is providing a €25 million loan to Tegeta Motors to support the expansion of its new service centre near the GEZI customs zone in Tbilisi, enhancing capacity along a key transport corridor in Georgia. The project, co-financed by Tegeta Motors with an additional €7 million, also includes technical cooperation programmes focused on vocational training and corporate governance. Through the Tegeta Academy, accredited training initiatives, digital learning expansion, and national skills development will benefit at least 200 participants. The investment strengthens Georgia’s role as a regional automotive hub while reinforcing Tegeta Motors’ alignment with European standards and best practices.

(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 17-Dec-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has approved a €25 million financing package for Tegeta Motors, the leading automotive distribution company in the Caucasus, to support the expansion of its service infrastructure and strengthen the development of skills and governance standards in Georgia’s automotive sector. The investment is intended to enhance Tegeta Motors’ operational capacity while reinforcing Georgia’s position as a regional automotive hub.

The loan will be used to expand Tegeta Motors’ newly developed service centre located near the GEZI customs zone in Tbilisi. Positioned along the Tbilisi bypass, a strategic artery within Georgia’s East–West transport corridor, the facility is designed to service more than 30 large vehicles at the same time, significantly increasing throughput and operational efficiency. Tegeta Motors will co-invest €7 million alongside the EBRD financing to support the project’s implementation.

In parallel with the financial support, the EBRD will provide two technical cooperation programmes. One programme will focus on strengthening vocational education by aligning training initiatives with international standards, while the second will support the development of a comprehensive corporate governance action plan to further enhance Tegeta Motors’ governance framework in line with global best practices.

The financing agreement was formally signed at Tegeta Motors’ GEZI service centre in Tbilisi. The signing ceremony was attended by Alkis Vryenios Drakinos, EBRD Regional Director for the Caucasus, and Ekaterine Kavtaradze, Chief Executive Officer of Tegeta Motors.

As part of the cooperation, the Tegeta Academy will expand its role as a national training platform for automotive professionals. With EBRD support, the academy will introduce accredited programmes for mechanics, digitise existing courses to improve access for learners outside the capital, and contribute to the development of national occupational standards. The academy will also join the European Training Foundation’s Network of Excellence, positioning it as a reference point for vocational education in Georgia. At least 200 participants are expected to benefit from training programmes combining classroom learning with hands-on experience at the GEZI service centre.

The initiative represents a new stage in Tegeta Motors’ international cooperation efforts, underscoring its commitment to European standards and reinforcing its competitiveness across domestic and regional automotive markets. The project also aligns with the EBRD’s long-term engagement in Georgia, where the Bank has invested more than €5.7 billion across 316 projects spanning the financial, corporate, infrastructure, and energy sectors, with the majority directed toward private-sector development.
