SWU Verkehr Partners with Daimler Buses for 37 eCitaro Electric Buses to Boost Sustainable Urban Transport

(IN BRIEF) Daimler Buses will supply SWU Verkehr with 37 Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro and eCitaro G electric buses, plus an option for nine more, under a €34.6 million contract signed on 18 July 2025. Scheduled for delivery by end‑2026, these NMC4‑equipped vehicles feature fast-charging, advanced driver‑assist systems, and a 12‑year digital service package to optimize uptime and maintenance. This order supports SWU’s plan to have over half its fleet battery‑electric by 2027, replacing diesel buses in Ulm and Neu‑Ulm.

(PRESS RELEASE) LEINFELDEN-ECHTERDINGEN/ ULM/ NEU-ULM, 21-Jul-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — SWU Verkehr GmbH has selected Daimler Buses to deliver a fleet of 37 battery-electric Mercedes‑Benz eCitaro and articulated eCitaro G buses, with an option to increase the order by nine additional vehicles. The agreement, formalized on 18 July 2025 by SWU Verkehr Managing Director Ralf Gummersbach, Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm Managing Director Klaus Eder, and Daimler Buses CEO Till Oberwörder, represents a total investment of €34.6 million for up to 46 zero-emission buses.

The new units—15 solo eCitaro buses (12.14 m, three doors, capacity up to 65 passengers) and 22 articulated eCitaro G buses (18.3 m, four doors, capacity up to 143)—will arrive by the end of 2026, with optional vehicles following in 2027. Equipped with NMC4 battery technology offering 111 kWh per pack and fast-charging capability up to 300 kW, they support depot charging and on-route pantograph charging. State-of-the-art driver assistance features, including Sideguard Assist 2, Frontguard Assist, Preventive Brake Assist 2, and Traffic Sign Assist, enhance safety for passengers and vulnerable road users.

These buses join the 14 eCitaro G articulated vehicles already in service and will progressively replace diesel coaches on SWU’s Ulm and Neu‑Ulm routes. Integrated Omniplus Digital Services will provide telemetry diagnostics, uptime optimization, and battery health monitoring over a 12‑year contract, streamlining maintenance and reducing total cost of ownership. By expanding e‑bus capacity to over half the fleet by 2027, SWU Verkehr accelerates its transition to sustainable urban mobility.
